Vehicle Details
This 1972 Plymouth Duster 340 was refurbished in 2023 with work that involved installing a 416ci stroker V8 and a four-speed manual transmission, both of which were rebuilt by Sloan Racing Engines of Sanford, North Carolina. The engine is augmented by an Edelbrock intake manifold, a 650-cfm double-pumper carburetor, reconditioned “X” cylinder heads, an Eagle crankshaft, I-beam connecting rods, aluminum pulleys, an aluminum radiator, and TTi headers. A Detroit Locker limited-slip differential utilizes 3.55:1 gearing. The car has been repainted in lime green with black accents over black vinyl upholstery, and other equipment includes a rear wing, a front spoiler, hood scoops, Rallye-style 14″ wheels, power steering, front disc brakes, front bucket seats, a Hurst shifter, a push-button AM radio and cold air conditioning. It is said that the car has around 3,500 miles on it since restoration and engine work done. The speedometer and odometer do not work and need to be replaced.
I bought car less than a year ago and just don’t have time to drive. I’ve put on less than 10 miles since I bought, and guy before me who bought from guy who restored only drove 250 miles. Car starts right up and is a beast. The sound of the exhaust alone will make you want to buy it.

The Valiant-based Duster was introduced in late 1969 for the 1970 model year. For 1972, Plymouth built 227,992 Dusters, only 15,681 of which were produced with a 340ci V8, as was this car. Amber Sherwood Metallic (GF3) paint originally adorned this vehicle, and it was repainted in lime green during the aforementioned refurbishment. A blackout hood treatment is complemented by a matching front spoiler, body-side tape stripes, rear wing, and tail panel. The hood also has dual scoops and securing pins. Other exterior equipment includes fender-mounted turn-signal monitors, dual exhaust outlets, rigid mud guard and chrome bumpers. The windshield-wiper motor and linkage were replaced during the refurbishment, and so was the windshield itself. Cracks and scratches are noted in the paint but worse thing is on driver side rear quarter edge there is a small dent and crack in paint.
The interior houses front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black vinyl, and the metal surfaces are painted body color. Interior equipment includes woodgrain trim, a Hurst shifter, air conditioning, a push-button AM radio, a locking glovebox, lap belts, rear speakers, black carpeting, and rubber floor mats. The A/C is said to have been installed during the refurbishment. The driver seat has a small tear.
The replacement engine is said to have been manufactured in 1969 as a 340ci V8, and it was rebuilt in 2023 by Sloan Racing Engines at a cost of over $15k to displace 416ci. Equipment includes the following:
Eagle Specialty Products steel crankshaft
I-beam connecting rods
Reconditioned “X” cylinder heads
Edelbrock Torker high-rise aluminum intake manifold
650-cfm dual-line double-pumper carburetor
Holley mechanical fuel pump
Aluminum pulleys
Aluminum radiator
TTi exhaust headers
Dual X-pipe exhaust system with cherry-bomb-style glass-pack mufflers
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission that was rebuilt by Sloan Racing Engines. The Detroit Locker limited-slip differential contains 3.55:1 gearing.
The fender tag indicates that the vehicle is a Plymouth Duster 340 coupe (VS29) that left the factory equipped with a 340ci V8 featuring a four-barrel carburetor (E55) along with a light-duty automatic transmission (D34). The tag also reveals that the car was originally finished in Amber Sherwood Metallic (GF3) over bench seats upholstered in green vinyl (D2F6). The tag conveys further information such as V6X longitudinal black stripes and V8X transverse black stripes as well as B51 power brakes with front discs, H51 air conditioning, N23 electronic ignition, and N41 dual exhaust.
