1968 Chevrolet Camaro Additional Info:

Estate Car from a former AHRA and NHRA racer. Bought new in 1968 and immediately became a race car. The Freeman brothers, Jesse and Joe campaigned a number of different race cars over the years and this was Joe Freeman's Camaro, he was known as Jumpin' Joe. 34117 actual miles on the car, most all of it was a quarter mile at a time. The photos of it as a race car show it in all its glory. It was originally Butternut Yellow with a black vinyl top from the factory and over the years had many different paint configurations. Built in the fifth week of September at the Norwood plant. Original interior was black vinyl bucket seats with Hounds-tooth inserts. After it was retired from drag racing at Beeline Dragway, an AHRA track and at NHRA races in Southern California it was turned into a street car.

The race motor was removed and a 383 stroker with Summit cast iron heads was dropped in. A Holley 1850 600 cfm carb using center pivot bowls sits atop an Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake manifold. MSD ignition puts spark to the plugs with the MSD components housed in the glove box. Electric fuel pump with adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Roller rockers make things easy on the valve train. Headers of course. Power is transferred to the Dana 60 rear end thru a Muncie four speed using a Hurst Competition Plus shifter. The Dana 60 rear end still retains the Detroit locker unit and the ratio is 4:56...serious street racing occurs here... Set up with traditional traction bars.

All new front sheet metal; hood, front fenders and front end have been replaced, still in factory primer. Both doors need some minor work, deck lid is nice. The front window and rear window stainless trim needs to be replaced. Kill switch located in the rear panel under the truck lid. All the glass is very nice. No front bumper.

Front tires are Veento radials, 165/80R 15 mounted on Cragar 'Super Trick' spun aluminum wheels, Rear tires are B.F. Goodrich T/A radials, 255/70R 15, also riding on Cragar 'Super Tricks'.

Interior is pretty much stock...original bucket seats recovered on black vinyl, black carpet, no headliner, full roll cage with the driver's side cross bar removed to make getting in and out of the car a little easier. Autometer gauges and tachometer. Stock speedometer and fuel gauge, both work. Padded dash cover needs replacing. No rear seat as the down bars of the roll cage turn down into the trunk where the seat was. Stock door panels.

To run in the class the Freeman's chose it needed to retain the front drum brakes, and they are still there, no front disc brakes, rear brakes are drum as well. It is mini tubbed, no rust in the trunk floor...Arizona car, our vehicles don't rust out here. The rear wheel opening have been "relieved" a bit with a hammer, but they are fixable.

The Camaro runs and drives. Joe drove it to Tuesday night dinner with friends almost every week. Make it yours and you chose, make it an awesome street car or put it back on the strip.....let's go racing!
