Ready for spring camping trips / boogie van meets / Van life / boondocking?VIN: 1GBEG25K3J7143061
Background:
Late 2024 I was hit by a drunk driver who deliberately steered into me head on, at speed. Thankfully I survived, however recovery has been slow. My health has been improving, however my back is not so hot anymore which has lead me to sell off all of my classic cars.I purchased this van from a close friend who was also no longer able to work on this vehicle anymore and brought it back to what you see today. I have been very familiar with this van for over 15 years, and it has driven across the US a number of times. This has been extremely well maintained and has undergone a huge parts confetti cannon to bring her back to being road trip worthy again. There is a lot to list about this van, but the key things are that the motor, TBI injection, transmission, drive line and wheels and tires have also recently received a lot of love. This vehicle runs and drives very smoothly and is fairly quick considering its size.
I have put together a list of pros and cons for your consideration – I am no rush to sell this vehicle, and I also believe in being 100% transparent when it comes to selling a classic vehicle. I also had no intention of ever selling this, so there is some reluctance to let it go too cheap.
Pros: (HUUUUGE pack of receipts for work carried out over the last 20 years or more)
New Toyo Open Country All terrain tires ($1,600 installed) – refurbished wheels – Covered 2,000 miles since install.
700R4 Transmission with OD: Full service with lock up solenoid – drive shaft u-joints replaced which can be greased with a grease gun. This runs silky smooth and really puts the power down when you get on it.
Motor:
TBI Regulator (New regulator installed fixed the occasional surging issue it used to have) New coolant temperature sensor, new oil pressure sender, new EGR valve, New Map sensor, New IAC Valve, New ECU, New carter fuel pump and sender, new Bosch o2 sensor. Oil and filter replaced [All arts used were AC-Delco Professional where available] In the last few years it has had new yellow top Optima battery $300 and Alternator replaced.
Air conditioner: New AC pump with R134a (System was modernized, flushed and all O-rings replaced) Dose not leak and works perfectly! HOWEVER – not as cold as when it was R12. (This is normal)
Suspension: The front end was rebuilt a few years ago and all ball joints have the grease nipple – they have been greased. Drives and brakes in a straight line, does not wonder on the road.
Brakes:
All new pads front and back – brake system flushed.
Random new parts installed: [That I can remember] Vacuum canister, Electric window switch, tire cover, new rear tail light lenses, new wheel center caps [And I am sure I am forgetting a bunch of stuff]
Lights: LED lights with high beams are aimed correctly and make driving at night easy. Front KC fog lights work – All dash lights upgraded with warm white LED’s – all interior lights have been upgraded – It’s really made a huge difference inside, at night. Also uses a lot less energy from the battery if you’re not hooked up or running the engine. Leave them on all night and still start the van in the morning.
Spare parts: Every from spare fuel pumps, distributor, caps, bulbs, O2 sensor, IAC – spare wood trim parts from center consol – steering wheel puller and other random parts / tools etc.
Cons:
The weather stripping in the front doors could do with being replaced but still keeps water out.
Exterior paintwork is not the best but looks ok
If you don’t like the custom painted hood, I am including a spare hood
The roof was painted with black rubber coated paint by the previous owner – not because it leaks, but because the lacquer on the roof was peeling (I personally like the way it looks, but if you don’t, acetone will remove it.
