1967 Volkswagen Sunroof Cal Look Bug - "Diamond In The Rough

This Volkswagen Beetle is for those individuals that understand just how rare it is to find a 1967 Bug with a sunroof. A good amount of 67's out there, none with factory sunroofs. This is the car you searched for in the 80's & 90's but could never find. I'm only offering it for sale because I'm in need of a larger vehicle to fit my future goals.
I originally discovered this Bug back in 2020 and had hoped to negotiate a deal to purchase but wasn't able to complete the deal. My last words were "Please call me first when you decide you're ready to sell."
Fast forward to a month ago when the phone rang. The owner was ready to sell. I jumped at the chance, knowing full well that clean, rust free, 67 Sunroof Bugs don't show up very often, if at all. Certainly not when you're searching for one. Unfortunately my living situation has changed during that 3.5 year span and long term garage parking isn't available to me. I have no desire to park this outside the garage.
Most of the history of the car is unknown (as it was inherited by the previous owner) other than it appears to be an OC/So Cal car with no rust through. No welding, no patch panels, etc.. None of that nightmare. Appears to have all of it's dealer installed undercoating in place. The type of Bug you'd hoped to find back in the 80's & 90's but were already few and far between.
This Bug has the "feeling" of having been built in the late 90's or early 2000's and in indoor storage for most of that time since then. As you can see it has a set of five Chrome 15 x 5.5 Fuchs repop's on it in the Porsche 5 X 130 pattern. Tires are
Nankang 145 R/15's in the front (including unused spare) and the rears are Nankang 195R/15's.
The body appears extremely dent free and appears to have its original aprons, hood, decklid, etc..
I would consider the paint about a 20ft'er. The two worst areas are the decklid and the sunroof panel (see photos). I'm not sure what happened on the decklid (no dents but lots of scratches) and it seems like the sunroof panel was painted separately from the body and wasn't well prepped. I had zero plans of doing anything to the paint other than possibly polishing/detailing it to bring back some shine although it already shines relatively well and hasn't been polished in a number of years. I wanted the old school "as found" look and on that level, this Bug delivers. And then some.
Up front it has Porsche bolt pattern disc brakes (of unknown manufacture) combined with what appears to be a stock width "dual adjuster" beam and HD sway bar and Porsche pattern drilled drums (with studs) in the rear.
Actual mileage is unknown. From the photos I took of the odometer back in 2020 to what it shows now it has been driven 199 miles in that time. I was told by the previous owner that it was used for cruises throughout their gated community and short bursts around town but that was about it. I rode in it a few miles back in 2020 when I first discovered it but only drove it about half a block this time, from transport trailer to garage. And it has been garaged ever since. It is currently registered until April 2024.
As mentioned I have no idea what "size" the engine is (nor any other history) but it has dual carburetors of some sort and an alternator (as opposed to a stock generator), those being the easy to spot changes on the engine. Also a set of dual quietpack mufflers with heater boxes still in place. Being a 67, it's the first year of the 12 Volt VW's.
The Bug came with some (difficult to read) receipts from 2019 showing from what I can tell a new battery, master cyl., some other brake work, rear brake shoes, rear shocks.

The dash is in great shape. Appears to never have been previously "hacked" for a different radio (which is extremely common to see with these cars). While the radio isn't original, it appears to be an upgrade radio that "fits" as original, made to look, feel and fit like an original by a company called Custom Auto Sound (came with an instruction manual). There are two 6 X 9 speakers (in wood boxes, see photo) sitting on the package tray behind the rear seat back.
It has the "67 only" seats with the "side knobs" as well as the "lobster" seatbelts. The seats themselves (front & rear) have been redone in a familiar pattern. While close to stock looking they are definitely not the typical TMI heat seamed basketweave or whatever. They are well padded and comfortable.
Not sure if the door panels are original or not but they are in good condition. The carpet has been redone and in good condition. The headliner for the most part is decent but does have a couple of small holes above the rear seat. (see photo)
The steering wheel appears stock and original and in good condition. The shifter says Hurst on it (possibly a short throw but I really don't know). It's been so long since I've owned an early Bug that I can't remember what a stock shifter feels like.
The sunroof operates correctly (with its "Golde" handle intact) but is stiff and very "dry" and in need of lube. Just like the door window winders. I also think the pop-out rear side windows have been sitting closed for a number of years and could use some softening up as well.
I have only owned the car a couple months and had planned on already working on detailing the car but as mentioned, my schedule (as well as my living situation) isn't conducive to owning/detailing a classic car. I haven't even washed the car nor wiped the dust off the seats since I purchased it. This is obviously a "garage find" vintage VW that deserves lots of detailing but for those that enjoy that part of the discovery I believe you'll be well rewarded with the results.
This would be the perfect candidate for someone that already has a big motor with 48's and a built transaxle that's searching for a great platform to install them on. You could have a seriously cool era correct early 80's style Cal Look Bug that would be sure to turn heads.
Or keep it "as is" for a cool era correct So Cal/Orange County style Cal Look cruiser.

I will not reveal my Reserve price as that is the entire reason behind having a Reserve price and it will more than likely change throughout the Auction process.
What I will also say is that in an effort to achieve my upcoming goals I must sell this car so you very well might be surprised by what I'll do to make that happen.
