1994 Tatra Truck Additional Info:

"The Tatra T 815 Series was introduced in 1983, and has benefitted from five major updates over the years, many having to do with military requirements or emissions compliance around the world. It is exported to over 50 countries, used mainly by the military, but is also popular in the rugged Siberian oil fields, the Alaskan timber industry, and as a Fire/Rescue vehicle throughout Europe.

The huge backbone frame carries independently suspended halfshafts, all driven and all lockable, giving the 815 unequalled performance on and off road. It is the only known truck so rugged that operators in Eastern Siberia have erected a monument to it. The unique Tatra differential design allows unprecedented flexibility without the use of CV joints, making the driveline more rugged while remaining simple to service. The backbone frame offers 10X more torsional stiffness and 5X more bending stiffness compared to more conventional designs. The compliant suspension then allows up to 30% higher speeds in challenging conditions than other makes – one of the reasons that Tatra has won six Dakar Rallies."

The example seen here is a medium COE (cab-over-engine, two passenger with berth) 6×6 with an air-cooled Tatra V-12 engine and previous owner-installed 4-speed Allison automatic transmission and rollback bed. The Czech VIN of TNT285NB3NK019734 is not recognized by Ebay; the state of Tennessee has assigned a VIN of 00000000000019734 on both the title and registration.

It was sold new to an Alaskan logging company, and was used for field recovery and transport of logging equipment. The bed is 8' wide and 24' long, and when parked rests 55" above the ground. The beds sags when engine is off, hence the wooden blocks seen under the suspension. The gray foam panels seen in some interior photos are the insulation panels that cover the windows when the berth is in use. The nearest dealer is reportedly in Venezuela, but parts are readily available from sources in the Czech Republic. It has been in the Lane Motor Museum collection for almost 20 years. In 2012, after water infiltrated a torn axle boot while fording a stream, a full replacement of bearings, boots, and seals on the rear axles was undertaken, with parts sourced directly from Tatra in the Czech Republic. The six tires are all Bridgestone M844 M&S, 445 65R 22.5; the fronts (no date codes) are about 9 years old, and the rears (3 have date codes) all date from the first half of 2003; all have 13mm or more tread remaining. The four batteries were replaced last year. The damaged and removed, but repairable front valence/air dam seen in the gallery is included. It hangs low and we generally leave it off. A couple boxes of both new and used but serviceable parts (axle boots, band clamps, filters, brake parts, lenses, etc.) are included. A shop manual, parts manual, and owner's manual, allEnglish-language,are included in the sale. It has seen only limited use in recent years. Mileage shown is in kilometers.
