1940 Chevrolet Special Deluxe Convertible Coupe
There are few Chevy ragtops that look as good as a 1940 Special Deluxe. Bone stock they are beautiful. Modified for modern freeway driving and fitted with the kind of creature comforts found in a Lexus, they are just too nice to believe. We are pleased to offer a magnificent modified specimen for your consideration.
This is the kind of car that draws admirers like a magnet. A regular show winner, this full custom, all steel, Chevy hot rod is as smooth as silk. Leaded seams, properly crafted the old school way, create a tasteful departure from factory built Chevys; enhancing, rather than taking away from, the original design. The Hartz cloth top is chopped 3 inches and the rear fenders have been elongated over 3 inches, creating a trim, low profile to this gorgeous ride. This droptop has a rolled rear pan with a recessed third brake light, custom chevron taillights, and a drop down hidden license plate. The running boards are molded into the body, the grille and front fenders form an integral unit, and the hood is hinged at the firewall, revealing a highly detailed 350 CID Chevy crate engine with aluminum heads featuring larger valves and roller tappets. An aluminum radiator takes care of the cooling, and a TH350 automatic transmission, coupled to a 3.08:1 rear end makes freeway cruising easy. The headlights have been nicely recessed in the front fenders to streamline the car even more. Riding on 17” Coy’s custom alloy wheels, the car features Heidts independent front suspension and Morrison 4 bar coilover rear suspension.
Inside, this cover car convertible is finished in glove soft ivory leather with a custom console, plush carpeting and a banjo steering wheel. Outfitted with power steering, power brakes (disks front, drums rear), power windows, a great sounding AM/FM/CD radio with power antenna, tilt steering column, Vintage air conditioning, and 6 way power seats, this custom ride is light years ahead of its 83 year old siblings in comfort and practicality.
Records show that 11,820 of these convertibles rolled off the Chevrolet assembly line in 1940, but very few of them have survived. Some Chevy experts say there are less than 100 registered in the US today. The car was completed in 2004 and finished in glossy Claret Pearl paint that would be the envy of any luxury car. There is not another one like it. More than 100 subtle modifications set this unique custom convertible apart, and it just might be the best of its type in the world. It has just over 12000 miles on the clock since this beauty was reborn. Regretfully, this stunning car must find a new home.
