1930 Ford Model A Additional Info:
I BUILT THIS CAR OVER THE COURSE OF SEVERAL YEARS. I'M 81 YEARS OLD AND I HAVE BEEN BUILDING CARS SINCE I WAS ABOUT 14. MY OWN RAPIDLY FAILING HEALTH PRECLUDES ME FROM COMPLETING THIS ONE AS MUCH AS I WOULD LIKE TO SO, I'M GOING TO HAVE TO LEAVE IT TO SOMEONE ELSE.
THE BODY IS AN ORIGINAL, ALL HENRY FORD STEEL 1930 MODEL A ROADSTER. THE DASHBOARD IS AN ORIGINAL '40 FORD MOLDED AND WELDED INTO THE MODEL A COWL - OLD SCHOOL WAY. GAS TANK IS NEW AND LOCATED IN THE TRUNK WITH CUSTOM QUICK-RELEASE FILLER CAP.
I BUILT THE FRAME OUT OF AN ORIGINAL 1928 FRAME BUT WITH '32 FORD SIDE RAILS GRAFTED ONTO IT. THE REAR SUSPENSION IS FOUR TRAILING LINK W/ COIL-OVERS, ALL CUSTOM DESIGNED, AND BUILT BY ME. FRONT SUSPENSION IS VINTAGE DROPPED MODEL A AXLE W/ A CUSTOM LOWERED SPRING. FRONT BRAKES ARE '55/'56 FORD TRUCK, FULLY REBUILT - VERY OLD SCHOOL. FRONT SHOCKS ARE VINTAGE BRITISH ADJUSTABLE FRICTION. REAR AXLE IS A NARROWED 1970s FORD TRUCK. THE FENDERS ARE STEEL MOTORCYCLE FENDERS ATTACHED WITH FENDER BRACKETS CUSTOM MADE BY MYSELF. THE WINDSHIELD CHOPPED AND TURNED UPSIDE DOWN, IT FOLDS FLAT OVER THE COWL.
I HAVE DESIGNED AND MADE THE TOP BOWS AND SIDE WINDOW FRAMES MYSELF BUT WILL NEED THE SERVICES OF A TOP MAKER/UPHOLSTERY SHOP TO FIT CANVAS. THE BOWS FIT WELL AND RAISE/LOWER PROPERLY AND EASILY. THE FINISHED TOP WILL HAVE A GOOD SHAPE TO COMPLIMENT THE SHAPE OF THE CAR.
THERE ARE MANY RARE VINTAGE PARTS INCORPORATED INTO THIS CAR THAT I HAVE BEEN SAVING FOR YEARS FOR JUST THE RIGHT CAR SUCH AS LIGHTS, GAUGES, AND MANY MORE.
THE ENGINE IS A FORD 289 SOURCED FROM A 1966 FORD MUSTANG, FULLY REBUILT TO ORIGINAL STOCK CONFIGURATION. I RAN IT A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO BUT NOT RECENTLY AND I SUSPECT THE GAS IN IT HAS GONE STALE BY NOW AND NEEDS TO BE DRAINED AND REPLACED. THE THREE SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION IS FROM THAT SAME '66 MUSTANG. WITH SOME FRESH GAS AND A FRESH BATTERY, IT SHOULD START RIGHT UP AND RUN GREAT.
THIS CAR HAS A NEW WIRE HARNESS INSTALLED AND I BELIEVE ALL LIGHTS, GAUGES, AND SO ON ARE FUNCTIONAL. BRAKES AND CLUTCH ALL FUNCTION WELL AND THE CAR HAS BEEN YARD DRIVEN BUT NEVER ON THE ROAD.
I BUILT THIS CAR WITH AN INTENTIONAL "PATINA" AND IT WAS ALWAYS INTENDED TO LOOK LIKE AN "AS FOUND", "BARN FRESH", VINTAGE/PERIOD HOT ROD. I'VE ALWAYS HATED THE TYPICAL, - WAY TO SHINY, TOO OVERDONE, TOO PERFECT RODS THAT ARE SO COMMON AT CAR SHOWS. THERE IS A SMALL CRACK IN THE TOP/RIGHT WINDSHIELD CORNER WHICH WAS NEVER INTENTIONAL BUT I LIKE IT AS PART OF THE "VINTAGE" LOOK AND I WOULDN'T CHANGE IT. IT DOES NOT, IN ANY WAY, OBSTRUCT DRIVER'S VIEW.
