For sale, is an excellent example of the the last Singer series of roadsters before ending production and selling the company to the Rootes Group. The final version of the roadster, the 4AD, was officially known as the Singer SM roadster. Also called the Singer SM 1500C (USA) .First seen at the October 1951 Paris Motor Show, it was initially intended for export only. It used the 48 hp, 1497cc engine from the SM1500 saloon fitted to a virtually unchanged chassis and body, retaining the hydraulic/mechanical braking system. The 4AD can be told apart from a 4AB by it's large, rounder bumpers, as well as bigger tail lights mounted on long stalks. This model was made from 1951 with production ending in 1955. Most left hand drive cars went to America and Australia.Between 1951 and 1955 there were 3440 made and of that 906 were produced in 1953. Powertrain on this example consists of Engine with 1497cc 48 bhp 14, Transmission is 4-speed manual which shifts smoothly and does not jump out of gear. A car tested by Motor magazine in 1951 had a top speed of 73mph. I've had my car cruise at 65mph. This car is original in just about every way except I've installed a solid state electric fuel pump and new ignition points. The wooden tub is in outstanding condition as I have kept the car in a dry garage since purchasing it in 1991. Every few months it has been started and run out. The body is in excellent shape (see ill.) and the upholstery on seats and door panels was completely redone in very attractive black with red piping (see ill.) A unique feature of this roadster is the full rear seat, just put the kids in back and drive off! The tires, $800 value, purchased from Coker Classic tires are Firestone Champions 500/525/16 wide, white walls in as new condition. They have been driven less that 100 miles since purchased! I have some spares and a lot of original literature and 92 Singer Owners' Club bulletins which are jam packed with useful and valuable information..I could go on and on about the virtues of this little roadster, I've had my fun working on it and driving it and now it's time for someone new to enjoy it and take it to the next level.
