1965 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser -- Additional Info:
This barn find is a one owner vehicle. It is completely original except for the duct tape on the interior. It has not been registered since 1992 and I have the original title. I changed the belts and hoses, radiator coolant, rear axle lube, brake fluid and transmission fluid. I rebuilt the Rochester 2 barrel carburetor, installed a new HEI electronic distributor, new spark plugs and wires. I have the old distributor which has points and condenser because the electronic one is more reliable. The tires were rotten so new ones are in place. The Mark IV air conditioner and York compressor is ice cold using R12 freon. Power brakes and power steering are very good. I have driven the wagon in the neighborhood every few weeks over the past two years joy riding with the grandkids. really a joy and a head turner.
The body is excellent. The only rust I have found is just outside the spare tire well. floors are solid. There are no signs of an accident or repairs. There was cracked paint on the top and I sanded it and repainted it to stop the surface rust. This was not a professional job. The rest of the paint is original and shows 58 years of sunshine. I have a replacement rear bumper which is better than the one on the wagon now and that goes with it.
The carpet and seats are original and usable as-is but not perfect. there are some thin areas in the carpet. The seat covers have areas that I have used duct tape on so they are serviceable. The third seat has been tucked away most of it's life so is very nice needing no repair. The padded dash is perfect. The glove box is very nice. The aftermarket AM/FM radio works good but not real pretty.
I believe this wagon is in good enough condition to drive anywhere. It has not failed me over the past two years. The odometer is at 45399 and is not operational. I see a piece of tape inside the front door post which shows the mileage as 31623 in 1985 so mileage is low. The brake pedal wear indicates low miles also. I am pricing this as a nice original driver. You can look for its value in the NADA website for classic cars. If you want to restore and make it show quality, I doubt if you could find a better beginning.
