1962 Goggomobil TS300 Coupe
German manufactured micro car Four-seat commuter car One of 66,511 made between 1957 and 1969 Doors open “suicide style” Green exterior with green and white vinyl interior Rebuilt inline two-cylinder, 300cc engine mounted in the rear with new pistons and cylinder plus reworked heads Four-speed manual transmission that shifts in a Z formationWho is luckier that this little leprechaun landed at MotoeXotica Classic Cars, you or us? This is one of the more unique cars we have ever seen, a 1962 Goggomobil TS300 Coupe and is finished in a very handsome green exterior with a complimenting interior.
With a bright Green livery combined with its micro size, this car is quite an eye-catcher and would make an ideal commuter vehicle. The paint is in very good order and most of the trim pieces are in good shape but the taillight trim shows some patina. The glass panels are clear and crack-free. The vehicle’s lights are also in great shape. The car rolls on 145/80R10 radial tires (yes, just 10” wheels!) with green wheels and factory wheel covers. The car’s body panels are straight and solid, plus the engine bay is very tidy. The car’s bumpers are in very good condition and it has windshield wipers on the opposite side of the glass from most domestic vehicles.
This car was restored a few years ago, with a recent rebuild of its straight two-cylinder engine. The original TS 250 engine has been rebuilt to 300cc. Increasing the motor size enhanced the car’s drivability with a four-speed manual transmission. New pistons and cylinders were installed and the heads were worked. The transaxle was checked and one bearing was replaced. New gaskets and new universal joints were also installed. Very solid, this car has been converted for U.S. driving laws. It drives and handles well. This is a very presentable example of a Goggomobil coupe in great driving condition. Bonus details include hand-written starting instructions and how to work the shifter; the gears are horizontally spaced, not vertically so the driver shifts by moving the lever in a Z formation versus the usual H pattern.
Inside, the car’s bright green bucket seats with white trim are in very good order, while the floor mats are in good shape. The interior has also been recently renewed. The light-colored headliner is in good order as is the bright green metal instrument panel is beautiful. The two-spoke, white steering wheel is in good condition and the car’s door panels look great. The driver’s side even has a map pocket with a flexible cover. The mirror glass and shift lever are both in good condition. There is no radio in this car.
Hans Glas GmbH in the Bavarian town of Dingolfing, Germany manufactured the very rare model European Goggomobil TS 300. Glas produced Goggomobils until 1966, when the company was sold to BMW, and it continued production until 1969. A total of 66,511 coupes were produced, but very few of the TS 300 models were produced. The cars were mostly sold in Europe where license and taxes did not apply to cars with engines of 250cc or less. As a result, most of the cars were the 250cc models. Top speed was between 53 and 59 mph and this one is street legal in the U.S.
This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 32,660 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, exempt mileage title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
