1970 Opel Additional Info:
Absolutely stunning 1970 Opel GT. An award winning example at regional and national Opel meets, this is a true turnkey vehicle with absolutely no rust or body repairs. I have owned this car for more than 15 years, and it has been driven sparingly and garage kept during that entire time. I purchased the car from the second owner, who did most of the restoration (Texas car). This Opel runs, drives, handles, and stops very well. The GT was built as a fun and unusual show car, and includes a beautifully detailed engine bay with many chrome accents. The drive train includes the higher compression Opel 1.9 CIH engine, with a weber 32/36 downdraft carburetor and stock (chromed) cold air intake. The car is equipped with an Opel (GM) TH180 3-speed automatic transmission. 15 inch chrome wheels give the car a resto-mod look and complete the "Show Opel" concept. Tires have good tread and cleanunscuffed sidewalls. Custom exhaust with chrome tips and nice exhaust note.
The paint is a very nice re-spray (clear coat and base coat) of the original 1970 only Rallye Orange except for the engine compartment and underside of the hood, which retains the original Opel enamel paint. The brightwork and emblems are good, as is the glass, although some minor pitting is seen on the original windscreen.
The interior is clean and includes a professionally re-skinned dash from JustDashes (currently ~$1500) Good carpets and nice Opel GT Source floor mats. All instruments, accessories and lights work on this car, as designed, including the unique roll-over headlights. Clock was rebuilt with quartz works and keeps perfect time. Halogen headlights and LED tail lights and turn signals help with visibility. Rebuilt ignition switch and added starter relay. New front brake pads and recently rebuilt brake booster. Spare tire (original?) jack, and tools included in the rear compartment. Nice locking gas cap and key. Retractable radio antenna with key.
The problems that I am aware of include a small transmission leak (likely from the dipstick O-ring) which has not gotten worse in the years that I've owned the car. Passenger side window is a little tight when rolling up and down, but tracks OK. Previous owner deleted the dome light when installing the headliner. Aftermarket radio/cassette player works fine, but is dated. Small (<2 cm) scratch on drivers side rear fender. Minor star crack on hood when hinge bolts were over-tightened. Although there is a switch for rear window defroster, the glass doesn't have heating element so it may be an option that wasn't purchased for this car? Key buzzer was disabled. Replacement speedometer after original odometer stopped clocking shortly after I got the car. Actual total mileageis about 96854 and I put ~7000 miles on the car after the engine was rebuilt by the previous owner.
I will also include all my Opel spare parts with the auction, including a complete set of gauges, marker lenses, nice car cover, powder coated cold air intake, original radio, factory service manuals, owners manual, literature, restoration documents, awards, and other misc. Opel paraphernalia.
Don't miss this opportunity to own a really fun and unique piece of automotive history. Drive this car to a show, and expect to draw a crowd and leave with an award. The reserve is much lower than the cost to restore another Opel GT to this level.
