1972 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible Additional Info:
Nice Cutlass Supreme 442. Non original 455 engine cast # 396021 "F", stamped 32m220906. Heads 409100 Ga. Intake 410448 "U". Exhaust manifolds are 402295 W (left) and Z (right). I think the engine is from another '72 Cutlass.
I do not have any documentation to prove this is a 442 but it has every indication to be one. Boxed rear control arms, Hurst dual-gate shifter, no signs of rocker repair where regular Supreme's had trim. Rear anti-sway bar. Rallye pack gauges. Tic-Tock-Tach is new and it worked last Fall, it is not now, may be a fuse. I am not an expert so look at pictures and call with any questions. This car is a real head turner with the Matador Red paint and black interior. I spoke with the guy who painted it 30 years ago, he put on NOS fenders and beautiful paint. The stripes are actually painted on, not decals. He said at the time it appeared to be all original except the engine. The top has no tears or rips but the padding underneath needs replaced, new weatherstripping. This Cutlass has a lot of options. Power brakes, power steering, A/C (not hooked up but all there), cruise control (doesn't work), power windows, power locks, electric trunk release, Hurst dual-gate shifter, rare 8-track radio (does not work, has no power), tilt wheel. The power top works perfect. Trumpet exhaust. TH400 transmission, posi-track rear end. Even has factory air shocks. Tires are vintage Goodyear ST's and have cracking near the rims, all hold air. Title is a clear Indiana title and shows the mileage to actual, no way to confirm this though. Custom fit car cover with "442" embroidered on the sides. Pertronix distributor. New front calipers, rotors, hoses, and pads.
I could not get the Quadrajet running right so I installed a Quick-fuel Slayer, new lines, and a new fuel pump. Runs decent but carb needs tweaked, I am not good at adjusting the choke or automotive electronics. Takes somebody with more skill and resources to fix the few issues this car has. I drive the car on occasion and it runs great when warmed up, no over-heating. I believe it would benefit from a 2-1/2" exhaust, 2" or 2-1/4" on it now. It does not smoke at start up or when kicking it down. Transmission shifts fine but it does drip fluid.
The pictures show this to be an extremely attractive and cool 70's muscle car, it looks just as good in person. I just don't have the time or know-how to make it perfect. Call with questions between 9 am and 9 pm EST. 765-717-9314.

"I've always liked that car. I don't remember very many details as it was painted a long time ago. I did all the paint and body workand some one else did the mechanical. As I recall I installed new NOS quarters and fenders, southern doors and deck lid. I don't remember the floors. All the options were original including the rally pac, duel gate, windows, tilt,cruise.In other words nothing except the big block motor was added. Even most of the interior was original at the time I worked on it. But in those days no one was that interested in build cards. Ashley (previous owner) was planning to put aram airhood on it, but since all of his cars had them I talked him into going with the original metal hood. I wish I could tell you more about it only I rebuilt over two hundred of theseconvertiblesand I simply don't remember which one is which. For instance, there is a similar listed 442 that appears to have the wrong spacing of the 442 emblems, it has a cut-out bumper with trumpet exhaust and supposedly 350 engine cars did not come this way. It also is an automatic on the column, now I don't know about you, but that is a deal breaker for me, and this car appears to have the photos enhanced. Follow your first instincts, curb appeal, when I first saw my car with it's Matador red paint with black stripes, interior and top, I knew it was the one for me. My pictures are real and un-touched. ! My reserve is almost exactly half of the afore-mentioned car's asking price!! I hate to see it go and it is my hope that somebody buys my car that will really appreciate it.
