1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 Tribute Additional Info:
This car has had over $10K in parts installed in the last 2-3 years, actually in the last 1500-1800 miles, to make it look better, ride better and run better. The car has PS, PB and AT, a TH400. The engine is a strong 455 cid. It has positraction.
Under the hood is a recently installed aluminum radiator. Also recent were hoses and belts, underhood insulation, an Edelbrock Performer carb, alternator, Optima battery, brake booster and master cylinder. The fuel tank sending unit and related hoses and fittings were replaced.
The steering was completely rebuilt including a new steering gearbox. Also, the car was lowered with two inch dropped spindles and two inch shorter rear springs. Front power disc brakes were added, also shocks on all four corners, and a rear sway bar. Five new 15 inch wheels were installed that give a modern appearance to an older style, along with all new tires.
The paint is good driver quality. The trunk is clean with no rust. The car has correct 442 badging throughout, a new windshield and new front and rear bumpers. It has four H4 Halogen headlights. The exhaust flows correctly through the trumpet tips in the bumper. A cloth top with new wires, pads, and weatherstripping was installed. The rear window is plastic. All of the window glass is good and the side windows roll up and down as they should.
The seats and door panels were redone. It has a later year 442 steering wheel. The carpet was replaced, as were the scuff plates, seat belts, window crank handles, and door handle trim. Under-dash digital gauges are now in place. Vintage Air AC was installed.
On the down side (maybe), the radio doesn't work and the horn recently quit blowing. The temperature gauge sometimes gets excited when the AC is on, but it's just the gauge, not the temp. Actual mileage is unknown.
Someone is going to get a great cruiser for what this car is probably going to end up selling for. The "coke bottle" body design, the ride height, the more than adequate power and that big car ride with the top down make it hard to part with, but, it's a case of so many cars and so little time....
