The vehicle offered here was built in 1974 by Horseless Carriage Corp in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It is quite faithful to the original except it is 10 inches shorter to ensure it isn’t mistaken for an original. It has a 6 ¼ HP Kohler engine with electric start. That power is transferred to the rear wheels through chains and a centrifugal clutch. The breaks are mechanical drums. It has head and tail lights and even has manual turn indicators.

The vehicle is titled in North Carolina as a 1901 Oldsmobile Replica and has Horseless Carriage license plates. It will be delivered with a clear title. Since is is over 50 years old, it should be able to be registered as an antique in any state.

The vehicle is in wonderful condition, but is 52 years old and does show some wear. There are a few paint chips and there are 3 small tears in the canopy which require close inspection to notice. The vehicle runs and stops as it should. I The carburetor has been rebuilt and it starts easily.

This replica 1901 CDO would make a great alternative to the golf cart where such vehicles are widely used instead of automobiles in such places as The Villages, and Ocracoke Island

The vehicle won a trophy for most unusual car in a recent show and that trophy will be delivered with the car. Women love this car, and generally describe it as “adorable.”

The car is to be picked up in New Bern NC. I suggest a 5x8 open trailer, which is what I used to tow it to parades and shows. If you use a U-Haul enclosed trailer, you’ll have to remove the canopy. That’s how I brought it home from PA when I bought it. Reinstalling it is a time consuming job. If you want it shipped, I’ll cooperate but, you’ll have to make the arrangements with the carrier and for any packaging which the carrier might want.

Before there were replicas of the MG TD and Shelby Cobra, there were replicas of the 1901 Curved Dash Oldsmobile (CDO.) Replicas graced the showrooms of Oldsmobile dealers for their 50th anniversary. Many companies built replicas from the late 50’s through the 70’s. They are currently being built with electric engines in China

The 1901 Oldsmobile was the first production vehicle built, with interchangeable parts, in automotive history. 450 were built in 1901. Henry Ford’s Model T didn’t come out till 1903.
