DESCRIPTION:

Up for sale by a private party is this rare and restored 1971 Oldsmobile 442 convertible in the original Saturn Metallic Gold, black convertible top, and Sierra Tan interior with a bench seat. There are many factory options on this 442 which makes a true collector’s item including the factory A/C, column shift, power brakes, working clock and AM radio.

This is a classic which was restored to be driven and enjoyed. Not a ‘trailer queen’.

There is also a signature with a date in the trunk lid by Joe Mondello, “Dr. Oldsmobile”.

The frame-off restoration was performed by the prior owner and completed in 2005. It is documented through a photo album which is included with the sale. The present owner also has documentation on all of the maintenance performed on the Olds up to 2023. Although the odometer shows 98,000 miles it has been driven approximately 20,000 miles since the restoration.

The condition of the body is very good. It appears most of the body panels and floors are original to the car. The Saturn Gold paint shows well but does have some ‘age related’ chips and paint issues. Please view all photos and ask questions.

Exterior chrome and all the glass are in excellent condition and go up and down easily. The power top was replaced and in excellent condition. It functions normally, see video.

The interior shows well and may have been reupholstered when it was restored. Dashboard and other plastic components appear to be in good condition. Areas of the carpeting do show some age from the sun but overall is in good shape. All factory gauges function including the clock, speedometer, and odometer. Aftermarket oil pressure, water temperature, and voltmeter function too.

The 455 cu in 340 horsepower Rocket V8 was rebuilt but is not original to the car. It is from a 1970 Olds and has a mild hydraulic cam and 10:1 compression ratio. Premium pump gas should be used. The Turbo 400 transmission is numbers matching to the car as well as the rear differential. It should be noted the A/C system was repaired with new parts in 2021 but does need to be recharged with R134. Does not blow cold air.

The gas tank was replaced and new fuel lines added. The exhaust system was replaced using FlowMaster mufflers with the stock manifolds.

The stock suspension has been well maintained as well with new polyurethane bushings, steering box, upper and lower control arm bushings, brake system including master cylinder, and the B.F. Goodrich 225/70R/14 tires that are only 3 years old.
