This 1955 Oldsmobile 98 Starfire Convertible is a gorgeous 50s cruiser with fantastic options and great curb appeal. On November 5, 1954, Oldsmobile introduced its 1955 passenger car lineup with the GM marque's newest vehicles making their dealership debuts two weeks later. The among the biggest stylistic updates in 1955 were new deepset chrome trimmed headlights, new side moldings, and new front and rear emblems. The '55 Oldsmobile lineup was divided into three sub-series, the entry-level Eighty-Eight, mid-level Super Eighty-Eight, and the top-of-the-line Ninety-Eight. The 98 Series, which sat atop a slightly longer wheelbase, was offered in four body styles including a 4 door sedan, a 4 door "Holiday" hardtop, 2 door "Holiday" hardtop and the flagship model, a 2 door Starfire Convertible. The Ninety-Eight series models came complete with the standard equipment that came on the lower level 88 and Super 88 models, and additional higher level trim accessories such as an electric clock, stainless steel wheel discs, more comfortable front and rear bench seats, deluxe-style steering wheels, courtesy lights, and a padded dash, among other items. 1955 would prove to be a banner year for Oldsmobile which was the fourth best-selling American automaker again and the GM marque produced its 5 millionth automobile in July of 1955. In total, a mere 9,149 '55 Oldsmobile 98 Convertibles were produced which makes this particular example one of the rarest Oldsmobiles in 1955. Powering this '55 Olds is a 324 Cubic Inch V8 engine fed by a single 4 barrel carburetor that together were said to have created 240 horsepower when new. The 324 V8 is mated to a Hydra-Matic Automatic Transmission that makes this 1955 Oldsmobile Starfire Convertible an easy car for anybody to drive. Exhaust exits this Oldsmobile's powerplant via a dual exhaust setup that generates a nice throaty sound out the rear. Being that this Ninety-Eight convertible was the top-of-the-line Oldsmobile in 1955, it comes absolutely loaded with options! With power brakes, bringing this 4,000+ pound convertible to a complete stop is a breeze. Power steering is another welcome option on this '55 Oldsmobile 98 since it makes turning in and out of tight parking spaces almost effortless. The white vinyl power convertible top goes up and down easily all with the simple flick of a switch and it has a great look as well. Riding on a set of whitewall radial tires paired with full Oldsmobile wheelcovers, this '55 Olds has a great look and even better ride rolling down the open road. A rear-mounted continental kit is another wonderful addition and adds to the 50s allure of this wonderful automobile.
