1971 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible Additional Info:
This 1971 Oldsmobile 442 convertible is everything you want and is coming off of long-term ownership. The original 455 V8, a close-ratio four-speed, and terrific factory-correct color combo make this one the finest examples around.
The Oldsmobile 442 was on a dual mission to provide performance and luxury, and this droptop seems to do it best. A respray in 2019 refreshed the factory-correct Sterling Silver, and there was a true professional hand on this body. That kind of investment means you get a terrific sparkle every time you take out this sunshine-friendly convertible. Plus, the intricate black pinstripes do a great job of highlighting the well-integrated bumpers and flared fenders. And this aggressive blackout continues as it draws attention to the ram air hood. Plus, when the black folding roof is in place, you have a total package that is so well-coordinated, it almost has a two-tone appearance. This is also quite a rare piece of muscle car history as only 1,304 442 convertibles were produced in 1971 – its final year as a separate model.
And because this black and silver package looks so great with the top up, you're going to love it even better when the take the power folding roof down to reveal the full black interior. Everything looks fresh and correct, including newer front seat covers. This one has a terrific sense of vintage premium with plenty of burled walnut applique on the door panels and dash. There's even the original AM radio still cranking out tunes. You have plenty of room to bring along family and friends, but any time you want a more individual experience, the center armrest folds down. In fact, this is true driver's car. That's why you have the classic Olds sports steering wheel, a large tachometer in the dash, and four-on-the-floor.
Under the hood is exactly what you want to see – an original number-matching 455 cubic-inch V8. It was rebuilt about 5,000 miles ago, and there has been a solid investment in engine bay during restoration. That's why it's an impressive time machine that looks like this car just left the Lansing factory. Those great hood scoops feed the massive vacuum operated ram air intake, and below that is a the correct four-barrel carburetor. And this feeds the dual exhaust (yup...400+ cubic inches, four-barrel carb, and dual exhaust – it's a true '71 Olds 4-4-2.) But real 442 fans know part of the original legend includes a four-speed manual, and so this one has that, too! It means you get complete control over this big V8 through a legendary Muncie close-ratio stick shift. Even with this power package, the dual luxury and performance nature of an Olds always shines through. After all, no matter how much muscle it brings to the streets, it still has all-day usability of an Oldsmobile. For example, the dual exhaust has a hushed note that won't get you in trouble when cruising through the neighborhood. Plus, you have great anytime driving features like front disc brakes, sway bars front & rear, and the grip of Goodyear Eagle ST tires on iconic Olds Super Stock wheels.
Complete with the reproduction window sticker that shows you all the factory-correct features, this is a fantastically restored and preserved droptop. So you're getting a great overall presentation of a desirable and rare classic. That's why you know a deal like this will be leavening us soon. Call now!
