1968 Oldsmobile 442 ConvertibleReal Deal #'s Matching Car"Provincial White" (Code C)"Blue Interior" (Code 953)"1 of 5100"
NO RESERVE...BUT 442 IS FOR SALE LOCALLY AND AUCTION CAN BE ENDED AT ANY TIME...
I purchased this 68' 442 Convertible from the original owner some time ago. It was a incredible shape all original car with 70k miles on it and likely had #'s matching air in the tires (no pun intended)...
However, I enjoy original well maintained super solid cars, but at the same time I hate thereliability lost with having all original gaskets, seals...ect. So, I decided I wanted to make this car our family driver down in our lake house in Lake of the Ozarks, and I did just that. I had the drivetrain completely gone through, from a valve job to hardened valve seats for unleaded fuel. I rebuilt the carb, replaced the timing chain and cogs, rebuilt the trans, resealed the rear diff (2.56 posi) completely overhauled the brakes...from shoes to master cylinder, recored the radiator with original tanks. Rebuilt the carb, fitted a new set of BFG tires...replaced the gastank, sender, exhaust, rebuilt the front end, installed a quick ratio steering box, and a bunch more.
The interior was in excellent shape, but I installed a new carpet and fitted the front seat with a new Legendary exact reproduction...the rest of the interior looks so darned nice, you'd think it was original. So, the interior is like new.
My wife likes arts and crafts, so I had the trunk fitted with one of those "dress up" kits...with carpet and side panels...but I can assure you, its not patched and rock solid...I can remove that carpet if need be. I have the original spare, jack, ect. I just kept them out of the car for more usable space.
The paint and chrome are not perfect, but darn nice for 51 years old! Iwouldn't change a thing! A few touch ups, a bit a of patina, the car just screams well kept original.
The convertible top is original to the car, and while its just starting to show a bit of age...it's not needing replacement...it fits the car great, I replaced the top motor, pump and cylinders...just because...
I had all the door cards off, rebuilt and adjusted the window regulators...everything fits so nice...and the car drives like new.
Sure, its not perfect, but it's original, more honest than Abe Lincoln, and is just what the Dr. ordered for a summer driver that gets more attention than a Lamborghini.
The upside on this car is being original paint, its not hiding bondo...and the original motor surely ads to the value.
I think the amount of time and attention I put in this car are a big plus. I'm one of those guys where "everything must work"...and everything does.
If you want a "body shop special" fromsome dealer...eBay is full of those...and replicas, clones...tributes, ect. This is the real deal.
I never wanted to sell this car...I've likely got 10K more in the car than I'll ever get back, but the kids want a set of brand new wave runners...and those get pretty expensive...so, I agreed to sell the 442.
I just drove down to MO and picked her up out of storage and brought her up to IL to sell it. Did I trailer it? Heck no...this car was meant to be driven...and shedidn't miss a beat.
She is 51 years old, and maybe I'm crazy...but I wanted to put one last 400 miles on it.
I have a Central Dispatch Account, this is what the shipping brokers use...so I can get you a wholesale rate on shipping...if you decide to go that route.
