The 1980's were a bleak period for the American muscle car. For 1985 Oldsmobile revived its famed 442 option on its top level trim Cutlass Salon. With a 180horsepower code"9" 307 HO V-8, 4 speed overdrive transmission, cat-back dual exhaust and 3.73 rear gear, it launched the last generation of Oldsmobile "muscle".
This 1985 442 is a clean, solid (NO winters), un-molested survivor with just 82000 original miles. A very nice driver quality, cruise-night car that can be proudly and comfortably driven anywhere. It is a joy to drive and constantly gets "thumbs-up".
Under-hood is the completely stock, unmodified code "9" 307 HO V-8, which purrs like a kitten! The exhaust tone has a very distinctive rumble through a brand new factory correct cat-back dual exhaust. Recently treated to all fresh fluids and filters, complete tune-up (plugs wires cap & rotor), new hoses and belts, new battery and four new correct 215/65/15 radial tires this beauty is ready for summer cruising! Equipped with power steerin, power disc brakes, power windows, A/C (all complete right down to belt, but does need charge), T-Tops with jackets, AM/FM/Cassette stereo (works perfect and sounds great!), reclining seat backs.
A rock solid no-winters vehicle, was repainted about 15 years ago in its correct medium gray metallic, silver metallic basecoat / clearcoat. Nice driver quality paint shows well with a smooth glossy finish. Some minor imperfections (nicks, chips etc) have been touched up. Has all correct stripes and badging. Panel alignment is excellent. One very small paint bubble (scab) about 1/2 the size of a fingernail down low on driver door has been touched up. Two minor wiper scuffs about 4" long on lower left corner of windshield. All exterior trim is excellent.
The dark Claret interior is extremely clean for its age. A few very minor flaws and little wear. Dash and insrument cluster near perfect. All gauges work properly. Console is also excellent with all correct trim . The original correct color GM logo floor mats are still in very nice condition! Factory AM/FM/ Cassette stereo works correctly and sounds great. One small trim piece on inside passenger seat hinge is missing. T-tops do NOT leak! T-top jackets are present and in excellent condition.Trunk is clean with factory jack and spare. Correct chrome Super-Stock wheels are very nice. Some minor surface rust was cleaned up. The factory chrome on these wheels was not the best. All original 442 logo center caps are excellent.Four brand new correct size 215/65/15 radial tires. I also have the owners manual and build sheet!
1985 was the most desireable of the 5th generation 442 (85-87). At 180 hp the 85' P code 307 HO was the most powerful. For 1986 a more restrictive "smog" cylinder head and milder profile camshaft was used with a drop to 170Hp. Only 3000 1985 442's were built. Nice solid original examples are getting scarce and quickly rising in value.
As I stated above, I call this a very nice "driver quality" cruise night car that you can also take to your local car show, drive and enjoy as its value increases. This car has no issues and I would drive it anywhere with complete confidence!
I have been a classic car enthusiast / collector my entire life. Unfortunately my "enthusiasm" exceeds my free time and available storage. So I must pass this rare Oldsmobile on to the next lucky enthusiast! I have set a very modest reserve that is considerably below recent examples that I have seen advertised. Dont miss this opportunity to own a REAL OLDS 442 at a realistic price! PLEASE READ BELOW!
