1959 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight Additional Info:
1959 oldsmobile dynamic 88 2 door sedan, 371 rocket engine, hydramatic jetaway automatic tranny, all original. Solid frame. This is a rare car,1 of only 16,123 made, and not many left, and you rarely see them up for sale like you will a 1958 or 1960, the most prime year in U.S. automotive history, car is all original, and very straight and solid for original, was never damaged, or repainted, and needs little body work, most any rust on it was just surface rust, the only little bit of rust on it is in the exact 3 same places on both sides, a small area on the very bottom of each front fender, a small area in front of lip of rear wheel wells, and a little bit on the very bottom to the rear of the wheel wells, and two areas on the outer edges of the trunk pan, i have the trunk pan areas cut out from a parts car, so exact fit and easy fix. Anything else was just surface rust, and i also have all the panels included from a parts car to fix all of the other areas mentioned above, so its easy to fix with orginal patch panels. The car is mechanically sound, and runs and drives nicely, all brakes were redone, stops on a dime, needs nothing mechanically to start driving it.
I bought the car to restore awhile back, and had it stored in my dry, heated garage for over 2 years due to other projects i had going on, and started finally working on it this spring, and have spent my spare time the whole summer, and fall stripping the car down to bare metal, the only thing left to strip pretty much is some of the driver's side fender, the hood, and about half the passenger side door, and a couple other small areas, so not much left to do, all that needs done is just finish stripping the few areas, and its ready to complete the body work, and be painted. I found a good parts car earlier in summer, and had them cut out the few areas that needed repaired so the areas that need repaired could be repaired with patches that are original and original shape, so nothing much needs fabricated, i have everything needed to finish the job and is included, the only thing i didnt get around to getting was the 3 floor pans it needs replaced, they are only 65 dollars a piece online, floor is very solid, its just the pans themselves, easy fix. Also car has original rims and hubcaps.
All electrical is good and original, lights worked, only thing i noticed heater motor didnt come on with switch, but i dont think theres nothing wrong with it, probably a fuse, or loose wire, and windshield wiper linkage rods outside under drain grate is frozen from sitting, they just need loosened up and oiled, theres nothing wrong with them. Other than that, electrical all worked good. new ignition wires and cap and rotor and points when first bought it.
i have all nice chrome molding for the car, and nice grille, and lettering, most was in nice shape, and what wasnt i bought from parts cars that were in nice shape so all chrome molding is complete, and i polished most of it all up and is ready to install, the only thing lacking in the chrome department is the bumpers, the rear is pretty solid and useable but pitted, and the front one, needs a few of the sections replaced, i wasnt going to bother with them and just find a couple good used ones and just replace them, but all else in the chrome department is good and complete. Also car has the "brite trim" package which is the fancier chrome package.
The only thing ragged out on this car was the interior, i stripped it all out, i have the front and rear seats and their in good shape but need covers, it will basically need a rug, headliner, package tray, seat covers, and door panels, and dash pad, i have the door panels, they are useable, but youd most likely want new ones, SMS interiors will make a complete set of door panels for 495, or you can make your own custom ones, and the passenger side door window is cracked, but not expensive.its just a rectangle, ive priced it all out, and you can put a new interior in it for about 1500-1700 no problem. I have all the interior hardware and mouldings complete and in good shape, everything is there to put it back together, just need the main interior parts listed above.
I was going to finish restoring it over the next few months, but ended up picking up another project id rather have, so i took the money i had to finish this car and bought the other car, so now i have to many projects going on, and one must go in order to do something with the other one, this car runs and drives and is ready to drive once painted and put back together, all it needs is the little body work finished, and painted, and put back together, and an interior put in it, and youll have a prime first class vintage car.
This is a very simple car and its very easy to work on,and not that much work to finish this car, your looking at just giving the engine bay a detailing, an interior, two bumpers, and a fresh set of tires, and the 3 floor pans. Everything else is there and in nice shape. You could easily finish this car complete and beautifully for 5k-6k range, or less depending on how nice you want to make it, and much cheaper if you can do the work yourself like i can. Ive spent a good bit of money, and ive done an awful lot of hard work on this car, and countless hours stripping it with poly wheels, so most all the hard nasty work is done, so it saves you a ton of time, and a ton of labor on the paint job. Ive owned the car for almost 3 years,Theres way to much to talk about with the car on here without writing a novel, so if any questions please just e-mail me, or e-mail me for my number and we can talk on the phone if youd like.
I know the car dont look very pretty in its stripped down state, but it is a very good, and solid, and straight car for its age that dont need a whole lot, mostly just elbow grease to get it done, so dont let the looks fool you, this is not junk, it is a very worthy car to build. Once its painted, you have everything needed, except what was mentioned above, and it will go back together quick. This is a prime vintage rare car and will be worth over 20k range and climbing when done as is, i have the reserve set low enough so what im asking leaves you way more than enough room to finish it and still have a lot less in it than what it will be worth when done, so highest bidder should win it, as i feel its worth a good bit more than the reserve price. thank you.
