There's just something great about the 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme convertible. They have one of the best designs of the era from a GM division that provided both speed and luxury. So this complete and feature-filled has everything from a Rocket 350 under the hood to modern R134a A/C.The paint on this car serves it perfectly. A professional respray of the original Viking Blue gives it a level of clearcoat gloss and shine that the factory never could. But the regal blue hue still stays under the radar with elegance instead of in-your-face bravado. The sheetmetal underneath is quite solid and straight, with uniform gaps and doors that you can close with authority. All of this allows you to enjoy the unique look that the Cutlass has among it's GM corporate cousins. Subtle contrasting white pinstripes serve to highlight what is already a very good looking car those lines not only highlight the way the rear quarters kick up behind the doors, but also they're a great match for when the white folding top is in place. Plenty of chrome is appropriate on the luxury-oriented Olds, and it all shines to the same level as this upgraded paintwork. These themes of brightwork and blue are unified perfectly on the color-matched Rally II wheels.A blue interior with the blue exterior is a very stylish choice, and that's why it came from the factory with this coordinating shade vinyl. These might have been classified as the intermediate size, but back then that meant offering plenty of room for up to six people in this Olds. But anytime you want individual comfort, the folding armrest gives the front bench a bucket level of comfort. Oldsmobiles were about offering the luxurious extras, and this one carries that tradition perfectly. That's why you can take down the power folding roof nearly anytime of year and remain in modern R134a air-conditioned comfort. Other luxury items like the burled walnut dash appliqus and the three pod-style stainless steel gauge faces were all standard Cutlass fare. You can tell there was a lot of thought that went into the appearance of this interior. It's the details such as the included boot cover for when the top is down, and how the upgraded AM/FM stereo is in place but the original unit and kick plates come with the sale.Oldsmobile people know that a Rocket 350 cubic-inch motor is something very special. Olds manufactured their own V8 engines during this era, and they shared no major components with the Chevy version. Thanks to its higher nickel content in the iron block, the motor has proven to be virtually indestructible out in the real world. Plus there's plenty of power from the four-barrel carb topping this V8. It has a distinctive sound all its own from the Flowmaster dual exhaust; a sophisticated rumble that's perfect for this ragtop's luxury/muscle dual nature. It's nicely presented, with gold paint on the engine, original-style air cleaner (with correct factory stickers), and a lot of correct components that say someone loved this Olds correctly. In fact, this one is a definite cruiser thanks to features such as power steering, front disc brakes, and a three-speed automatic transmission. So as much as you might want to take this Cutlass to a car show, it has all the right features for an all-day Sunday drive as well. This is a garage kept and well-serviced distinctive Olds that even comes with the owner's manual and car cover.
