The car is in show-winning condition, runs and drives fantastic, but has these 4 issues:1. Door handles stick open sometimes when you open the doors. I think the paint on and around the door handles is too thick causing binding and they do not spring back down automatically. You have to kind of touch them a little and they close correctly.2. The rear of the car has a slight clunking noise that you hear when taking off from a dead stop. I believe either the rear differential has a loose mount, or the universal joint is loose.3. The e-brake handle inside the car is loose with age and kind of rattles sometimes when you're driving around.4. The passenger side mirror has a paint blemish from the recent paint job.
I purchased this car in 2021 because I was looking for a purple Nissan 300zx, and at the time it was painted a kind of "burgundy wine" dark purple color. It was slammed on gold PBM coilovers with stance-nation wheels on stretched tires.
As soon as I got the car home I brought it to Z1 Motorsports for an inspection to look over the car and tell me what I bought. We updated the brakes all the way around with rotors, pads, stainless steel lines, and new calipers. We stiffened up the shifter, did an oil change, and did the 120k Timing kit which included spark plugs, timing belt, idler pulleys, and accessory belts. They fixed up the A/C which now blows ice cold during the hottest Georgia summer. When picking up the car from Z1 the technician said "This is one of the nicest 300zx cars I've seen in a long time!" and that was before I did all of the other restoration projects listed below:
I wanted to actually drive the car so the next thing I did was replace all the suspension with NOS OEM shocks and struts, and springs. I reached out to the 300zx community and found a set of good condition springs and electronic dampener adjustment motors, and purchased a brand new set of OEM shocks and structs from Z1 Motorsports. Butler Tire in Atlanta took off all the old suspension and returned the car to it's original glory, which now rides at stock height to fit the custom wheels, and the factory electronic "Sport / Touring" mode selector to make the suspension stiffer or smoother, works again!
At the same time Butler Tires installed a set of four Michelin Pilot tires on the custom Work Meister wheels. I actually had these wheels custom made for a DIFFERENT 1994 300zx that I used to have - they cost me about $6k back in 2018 and took 7 months to have manufactured and delivered. They are the Work Meister S3 3-piece wheels, in bronze and I considered taking them off the car, but I feel like they are such a perfect fit I didn't want to do it. Hopefully you love them too!
I brought the car to Monster Customs in Atlanta to have the stereo cleaned up and the interior leather replaced. They did an aftermarket carbon fiber steering wheel (the OEM steering wheel comes with the car), aftermarket black leather seat upholstery from Interior Innovation, and replaced the cheap aftermarket stereo in the car with a nice Kenwood double-din. Everything works, it has the OEM Bose sound system, and has no issues now. They also tinted the windows and did a few other little odds and ends to spruce up the car. The last thing I had Monster Customs do is to install a magnetic-contact battery tender from CTEK. If you open the rear hatch there is a little port on the side plastic that the battery tender connects to. You can shut the hatch on the charging cable and it will stay charging while in storage. This is the same system used on Ferrari, Bentley and Lamborghini cars from the factory.
I wanted the make the car a factory Nissan color, so I had a local body shop strip off the old paint and re-spray it to the OEM Nissan LP2 "Midnight Purple". It turned out great with only 1 real on the passenger side exterior mirror. At the same time the paint was getting done we also replaced most of the exterior rubber trim pieces such as the center t-top strip, the roof moulding, the door trim, and the windshield trim as well as other various old and dilapidated components.
The T-Top roof panels work great, they fit well and lock in place. They come with the OEM clip-in roof shades, but I do not have the T-Top storage bags, and the trunk is missing the luggage strap that I think most people would use to secure them in the back.
The engine, transmission and suspension are all stock. It retains all of the original parts that most people modify or remove. The electronic suspension dampening system is in place and functioning (recently rebuilt), the factory HICAS system is still in place, and there are no aftermarket parts in the engine bay whatsoever.
The exhaust system is the TOP SPEED PRO-1 Performance Dual Catback Exhaust System with H-Pipe that cost around $700. It's very good quality and has an aggressive, deep tone to it, but not very loud. It looks great on the car and allows you to hear the car without making a bunch of noise everywhere you go.
The car has aftermarket LED bulbs from S-V.4 (purchased from Headlight Revolution) and they are very good! Very bright, with a proper beam pattern. The original halogen bulbs in the projector headlights were not very bright at all, and most LED headlight bulbs don't work very well, but these ones do. The reverse light, interior light, and tail light bulbs are also upgraded to LED bulbs from GTR Lighting. They are all very bright and a great upgrade.
At the same time of doing the bulb upgrades I also installed a new set of OEM JDM clear lens tail light assemblies. These still look brand new and are installed as they would have been from the factory.
Everything on the car works well:
  • All exterior and interior lights, front to back / inside and out.
  • Stereo system, head unit, all speakers, and the OEM motorized antenna.
  • Turbos build boost as they should, engine does not make any funny noises or have any malfunctions.
  • All electronics inside the car work correctly including gauges, HVAC system, power locks, power mirrors, power seats, and suspension dampener switch.
  • The t-tops come in and out of the car without a problem, and seal well - there are no water leaks inside the car when it rains.
  • The suspension is in like new condition, works well and feels good.
  • The bearings, brakes, and clutch are all in great shape with no complaints.
  • The exhaust is sound, with no leaks or rattles.
You will be hard pressed to find another 300zx car for sale that is as well sorted, and original, as this one. It's not completely stock, but the modifications done to it are tasteful and no expense spared. Included with the car will be 3 keys, an working keyless entry remote fob, the OEM steering wheel, and all documentation from all the parts and service done to the car during my ownership.
The car has a clean title without lien and is available for pickup in Atlanta now. I can help you with enclosed transportation anywhere in the country if you need help.
