My uncle bought this truck in the early 90's and and drove it for a number of years, always ran and drove strong. No problems with 4x4 or manual transmission. This truck is from right around when they transitioned from the Datsun brand to the Nissan brand. A few years later, frame rust became obvious due to New England weather and salt/snow. The frame is built channel iron frame which is not well rust proofed and began deteriorating.
So frame off restoration began! Removed cab and bed and cleaned up and welded in the 4th side of the 3 sided frame plus whatever else needed doing. Did a bunch of rust repair on the body, used rustoleum primer followed by Eastwood rust proofing paint. Redid rocker panels across the length with 1/8 steel. Removed interior, repaired floor as necessary
Project stalled after this, sat in the barn out of the weather for approx. 15 years, so truly a barn find. Barn is now currently being worked on and we need the space, so time to clear it out!
The good:
Vehicle is complete, engine turns smoothly
Brand new front fenders, front valence
New interior matting, and underneath insulation (not installed yet)
New tailpipe
Gas tank has been replaced with remanufactured unit.
New air filter, oil filter, fluids look good!
Rust repairs are pretty much done, not showroom, but very solid
Mostly put back together, will be working on it the next few days
BONUS Spare parts:
Intake manifold
Exhaust manifold
Carburetor
2 ignition coils
2 Jensen 6x9 rear speakers
The bad:
Been sitting for 15yrs in the barn ever since and will need going through to complete the project, would make a great farm/hunting rig or will be a great parts truck for someone! We turned it over, but will need a battery and some TLC to get it running again, fun project for someone!
Title in hand. Bring a trailer as they say J
These are cool trucks, and pretty rare! Also given the stash of new/extra parts will be a good deal for someone.
