1978 Frazer Nash TT Roadster Replica Additional Info:
1978 Frazer Nash TT Roadster Replica .
For consignment, a replica of a replica if you will. The 1932 original replicas were copied from the 1931 versions which were entered into that year's Tourist Trophy Race. Originals are extremely rare and of course expensive beyond belief. But if you like the lines of the old race cars, this one could be worth a serious look. A fiberglass replica on a VW frame and sporting a VW 1500cc engine in the back. It retains the original look of the racers and offers up the convenience of low maintenance and VW reliability.
Note: This vehicle is sold with Reconstructed listed for the Make of the car on the title. Please consult with your local, county, state, provincial, or country DMV for proper titling procedures***
Exterior
The bodies, (both similar in style except for the omission of a passenger door in the Compton bodies), have to go down as one of the prettiest designs of the 1930's. With the whole body sloping back from the radiator and a curved tail the overall package is a car with an incredible stance that looks fast standing still. All molded fiberglass panels painted in British Racing Green and there is an overall patina to the paint giving it a vintage look. Chrome grille with quad headlights, dual side view mirrors perched atop the front fenders, and pinstriped fenders lend this car to be more of a classy sports car rather than a racing trimmed car. Under the front cowl is now storage with the VW engine in back camouflaged by a black "trunk" if you will. Flanking on either side of the grille are large spacers in fiberglass between the fenders and hood cowls assuming needed to house the modern suspension and width of the VW chassis. A few scratched areas of the fiberglass and a crack or two show some aging are present. Chromed wire knockoff hubcaps cover the original VW steel wheels and are wrapped in radial tires all around. A black canvas top is on and the consignor has had two side panels custom made to button up in bad weather.
Interior
A left-hand driver from the VW has a wood dash, wood rally style steering wheel and plenty of gauges adorning it. Tan vinyl seats in split seat bucket back bench format have a central padded and vinyl covered mini console running between them doubling as an armrest for the passengers. It has the rectangular windshield which can be folded down and make use of the twin semicircular mini windscreens for racing format. Black carpet covers the floors and door panels on the low-slung doors are black as well.
Drivetrain
Opening the rear "trunk" reveals the 1500cc VW engine. This appears nicely preserved and is overall very clean and well maintained with no grime or grease buildup. The VW 4-speed manual transmission is attached.
Undercarriage
The exterior of a British racer and the soul and inner workings of German engineering combine underneath to reveal the VW unibody construction, independent suspension, drum brakes in front and back, and rear engine. The frame is sturdy, rust free and all mechanicals appear clean and well maintained too.
Drive-Ability
With the VW underpinnings and power plant, this car runs great and is a suitable driver, offering up a nice ride, good handling, and quick stopping. The speedometer is inoperable as is the passenger's low beam and signal marker.
The body of a Brit racer and the soul of a German...what can go wrong?! Certainly, something rarely seen in original form, and even this fiberglass replica form. A classic looker and a modern-day driver, take yourself right back to 1932, only you are in 2023!
