1931 Nash 6-60 Series Coupe
A recently refreshed Nash 6-60 Series coupe with a ton of custom touches make for one street rod that you aren't going to lose in the crowds thanks to the eye-catching paint and snappy custom work. Add in a custom steel and vinyl interior, and a rebuilt 400ci V8 and we can say let's dash to this Nash.
Exterior
All straight steel which has been shaved of the hood, hood sides, fenders and running boards, with well minded gaps, and bathed in the deep end of the Atomic Apple Green. A louvered and ribbed front grille corral is dressed with the original Nash badge and has a single triangle shaped headlight on either side. Exposed front suspension and the silver painted frame provide the perfect backdrop for the exposed cream painted engine with its chrome headers and sidepipes. A front windshield visor leads back to the fully custom roof that is actually the hood from a 1957 Chevrolet. The bullet inserts of the hood have been removed and now hold small LED signal lights. Original chrome handles grace the exposed hinge doors and on the back is a sweeping trunk lid that leads down to a bumperless filler panel. Teardrop tail lights have been integrated into the custom rear roll pan and parts of the chromed rear suspension peek out from underneath the trunk. 15-inch silver painted wheels with chrome trim rings are on all 4 corners wrapped in skinny 5.60-15 wide whitewalls up front and fat 235/75R15 wide whitewall cheater slicks on the back.
Interior
With the all basic and utilitarian interior we see gray vinyl with diamond pleated stitching for the majority of the cushions bordering smooth gray bolsters and a thick gray padded top backrest. This diamond pleating shows up again on the seat riser, the base of the consolette and even the twin eyebrow arched faces of the dash. The rest of the dash is Atomic Apple painted steel with a cascading center drop down holding a stack of aftermarket gauges. We note there is no speedometer, however one is included with your purchase. This waterfall of green leads down to the console topper that holds a teardrop brushed steel shifter housing and black ball topped shifter. This dash is fronted by a 2 spoke custom steering wheel with a thick padded rim perched atop a brushed aluminum finish tilt column. Natural finish steel makes up the headliner and the rear of the cab, with some body matching green diamonds added for good measure. Natural finish steel dresses the door panels and for an extra touch, diamond embossing has been added that matches the seats and dash perfectly. Bare steel makes up the flooring and we note easy access to the dual reservoir master cylinder just below the brake pedal.
Drivetrain
Exposed for the world to see and oogle is a 400ci V8 engine courtesy of Chevrolet. It is presented in a contrasting cream color and has recently been gone through. This big inch small block sips air and fossils through a 2-barrel carburetor and bolted to the back is a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission. This pushes power to a 10 bolt GM rear axle. Plenty of dress up has been added in the form of polished and ribbed valve covers and a velocity stack style air cleaner assembly.
Undercarriage
All very solid and no rust seen within miles of this undercarriage, just apple green steel for the flooring and silver painted steel for the frame. Upfront, an independent coil spring front suspension with tubular control arms is on with disc braking, and on back a 4 link with coilovers along with drum braking is noted. Nicely done!
Drive-Ability
I was anxious to drive this street rod because how often do you get to drive a 1931 Nash?? This car fired right up and sounded fab! It drove very nicely with easy steering and the precise shifting from the automatic transmission. It handled beautifully and all the creature comforts were working just great.
A not often seen Nash from 1931. This one has all straight Atomic Apple painted steel, nice lines, a powerful mill and a comfy but basic interior. As noted, come in and make a dash for this Nash!
