THIS PRETTY LITTLE THING IS RIGHT AT HOME WITH ANY GROUP OF CLASSICS!
Allow me to introduce you to Clementine, an irresistably cute 1962 Metropolitan Convertible that loves hanging out among her classic friends who grow jealous when she draws all the attention. She has only been staying with us for a short amount of time and would love to be adopted by a new family that will love her and enjoy her as she deserves. Beautifully restored in her original Mardi Gras Red over Frost White colors she is believed to live most if not all her life in the south. A Gentleman from North Carolina purchased her from Florida and began the restoration before handing her off to another guy in North Carolina who came close to finishing before I purchased this little cutie and brought her to the Atlanta, Georgia area where she was finished up and is now ready for her new family to drive and enjoy her. The internet has a wealth of information on these cars which started production in 1953 and were marketed under the Nash and Hudson brand names for many years and production of these cars ended in the early part of 1961. Towards the end of the production these cars were simply marketed and branded as Metropolitans. Cars sold after October 6, 1961 were Titled as 1962 models and a reported 412 cars were shipped to the US in 1962 making this red and white beauty one rare little car! As you will see she is cute as a button, runs like a singer sewing machine, and draws more attention than you can imagine. On top of all that she can get close to 30-40mpg. I will do my best to provide enough large images, a video so you can hear her start up and running, and an honest description to help you determine if this '62 Metropolitan should be in your garage. As with all of my classics I do have this car advertised on several other websites including my own. If you want to scoop up this beauty before the next car guy or gal does feel free to call me to discuss how we can make that happen. Sit back and enjoy as Clementine invites you to come check her out!!!
As you will see in the photo tour below, Clementine has a beautiful body. Her sub compact figure has been caressed during the professional restoration and she is drenched in a combination of Mardi Gras Red and Frost white. She was repainted about 9 months ago and her body panels are extremely straight and body gaps are excellent. Although she does not claim to be perfect, the paint and body are close to flawless. There are just a few tiny chips at the back edge of where the hood meets the cowl that were touched up and one tiny mark on the bottom of the passenger side door where it looks like a pebble might have kicked up and left a small mark. All of the chrome, trim and emblems shine like new. The front grille looks fantastic. Original Spare Tire Cover is about as cute as it gets and looks like it is smiling at you. All of the glass is in great shape, windows roll up and down nicely and new weatherstripping everywhere. Did I mention just how cute she is??? Well, I think the photo tour of the body will show you what you need to know:
Clementine loves to go topless but she realizes that there will be days that she needs a little coverage and it is nice to know that she has a brand new white soft top for those days. The windows in the top are crystal clear and the top is easy to operate manually. When her top is down she has a cute little cover that snaps on for a put together look. Take a look:
Clementine loves to be admired but she also love to welcome drivers and passengers inside to enjoy her classy black and white houndstooth interior. The seats were recovered in the original styled fabric and look great overall. There is a small spot that should clean up in the center of the front split bench seat that should clean up. The rear seat looks great and the rear seat back folds down to accommodate larger items in the trunk. I am pretty sure you could lay a set of golf clubs in the trunk with the back seat folded down. Door panels look great and carpet was also replaced at the time of restoration. Original steering wheel looks awesome and the simplistic gauges all seem to function correctly and look great. Turn signals and lights all seem to be working correctly and heater works. The original radio is not currently working but come on, it sure looks cute. Come take a look inside:
Under her hood, or bonnet as some would say, sits what we believe to be her original Austin 1500 cc motor. It is believed that the motor was rebuilt at the time of restoration based on how well she runs. The engine bay was detailed out nicely. From my research I believe this little 1500cc motor puts out about 55hp so give yourself about 30 seconds to reach 60 mph but have fun doing it!!! The point is she loves to show off her beauty but likes to take her time doing so but this gives you and you time to enjoy the sun in your face and wind in your hair as you enjoy the scenery when you cruise wherever you would like her to take you. Her 3-speed manual shifter on the column goes through the gears nicely and we installed a brand new clutch a week ago. At just 1800 lbs she stops with ease and the brakes feel great with no pulling. Steering and handling is a pleasure and she runs down the road great. Carburetor was recently tuned and she fires up nicely even after sitting for days. Smooth at idle and great little tone from the stock single exhaust. White wall tires look close to new and original wheels with original styled hub caps really add to her class. Undercarriage is very solid and a new fuel tank was put in at the time of restoration. Inside of the trunk is rock solid and was also nicely detailed. Original tags in the engine bay show her original colors of P913 and P914 and original vin tag is in place. I have included a video following these pics so you can hear her start up and running!
