1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 AWD, Twin Turbo Additional Info:

NO RESERVE AUCTION: This is a 1st Gen 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 AWD Twin Turbo 5-Speed (GTO/Stealth). This is a rare car with many upgrades and cool mods, but it hasn't been on the road since 2014. This was my wife's first "hot-rod." She saw a VR4 and decided she JUST HAD to have one. So we found this one in 2010 and I poured a ton of time and money into fixing it up for her. This thing is fast - particularly in the high gears. It's still pulling like a freight train at 100+ mph and it hugs the road like no other car I've ever driven.
ALL GOOD THINGS MUST END: My wife drove this as her summer car for a while, but she eventually lost interest, so I stopped working on it. We parked the car and it has become another abandoned project (a crying shame – I know - VR4s deserve better). Many more photos below ... scroll down.
NO BULL AUCTION: Despite the cool factor of the car, I just don't have the time or interest to continue this project, so I'm offering this car to the highest bidder. No reserve – no inflated starting bid – just a straight 7-day auction. I'll live with whatever it brings, good or bad. No games or shenanigans. This car is NOT for sale locally (eBay only). I will NOT cancel the auction early. I will NOT entertain outside offers. The highest bidder gets it – period.
UPGRADES & MODS: It's been quite some time since I worked on this car; I really don't remember all of the specifics of every part and procedure. Nevertheless, here are the highlights I can recall ...
The base engine of this car is stock and unmolested, but many of the common fuel/performance mods have already been done;
  • 3SX Custom SS Y-Pipe
  • 3SX Fuel Kit (FueLab FPR)
  • Turbosmart Dual-Stage Boost Controller
  • Turbosmart Blow-Off Valve
  • Downpipe and Cat-Elimination Kit
  • Fuel Pump Hotwire Kit
  • Vacuum Line Reduction
  • EGR Delete
This car also has a number upgraded accessories and recent'ish repairs;
  • Enkei RPF1 Wheels (also have original wheels)
  • Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 245/45R17 95W Tires (w/less than 1,000 miles)
  • Double Din Kenwood Receiver/DVD/GPS
  • JL/Boss Speakers
  • Autometer AFR Gauge (on A-Pillar Pod)
  • Autometer Boost Gauge (on A-Pillar Pod)
  • New exhaust (single turbo muffler)
  • New Brakes
  • New Clutch Slave Cylinder w/Speed Bleeder
  • New Knock Sensor, Intake & Plenum Gaskets
  • New Spark Plug Wires (upgraded 8mm)
  • New Spark Plugs
  • New (Rebuilt) ECM
  • New (Rebuilt) Throttle Body
KNOWN ISSUES/PROBLEMS
  • A/C GREMLINS: The A/C in this car has a mind of its own. Sometimes it works – sometimes it doesn't. Last time I tinkered with it, the gauge showed it fully charged on refrigerant and I could hear the compressor kick in/out. Nevertheless, sometimes you get A/C – sometimes you get nothing. I could never figure it out. Plan on servicing the A/C.
  • TACHOMETER: The instrument cluster is fine, but the tachometer stopped working (first it was slow, then it read really low, then it finally quit all together). I'm not sure if the problem is with the sensor/wire at the coil or in the instrument cluster itself. I never sorted that out. Either way, the tach doesn't work.
  • ACTIVE COMPONENTS: This car came with a number of “active aero” features (suspension, exhaust, spoilers). To my knowledge, the active rear spoiler and active suspension work. The little chin spoiler and the active exhaust system are no longer installed on the car.
  • WEARING CLUTCH: I purchased a new XTD high-performance clutch and pressure plate for this car, but never installed them (the new clutch/disc set comes with the car). If you drive the car hard, you can sometimes smell the clutch. I'm not sure how many more miles the stock clutch has on it. The car is driveable (presuming you take it easy and drive it sensibly), but plan on changing out the clutch before you go balls-out with this car.
FULLY LOADED/COMPLICATED: This car has a ridiculous number of switches and buttons; to say it's "loaded" is an understatement. I've owned the car for 8 years, and I'm still not sure what some of the buttons do. With that said, I think everything else on the car works (electric windows, locks, wipers, mirrors, etc.), but I can't absolutely swear to that.
PAINT/BODY: As you can see in the photos, the body of this car is quite good. There are no significant dents or dings, and there is no body rust to speak of. However, the clear coat on the hood and roof has peeled and faded badly. The doors and quarters are still decent. This would be an excellent candidate for a quick plastidip or a Maaco repaint. If you wanted to do a full custom job, little to no body-work would be required to prep this car for paint.
TERMS & TRANSPORT: I have a clear title in-hand. Direct pick-up and cash works best (7 days a week). Cashier's checks are okay, but must be verified by my local bank (so, weekdays 9-5 only with a check). I can accept a wire-transfer for a long-distance/international buyer, but I have no idea how to ship a car. If you want to arrange such a thing, I'll work with you the best I can. Obviously, there will be no warranties or guarantees made or implied on a 26 year old modified hot-rod (Japanese tuner). This car is offered as-is, where-is.
ROADWORTHINESS: As I mentioned at the top, this car has not been tagged or insured since 2014. Two days ago, I charged up the battery and drove the car about 100 yards - from my shop building to my driveway. What I can say for sure is that it starts, it runs, it goes and it stops … but I'm not sure it's ready for a cross-country road trip. This is a turbo project car - not a basic daily driver. I would baby it home (or trailer it) and plan to give it a good once-over before driving any major distances or boosting. Car is located in Oil Springs, KY 41238. On-site inspections welcome.
Good luck and thanks for looking! ~MB
