1968 MGB GT – British Racing Green – Second Owner – Documented History & Fresh Engine Rebuild
1968 MGB GT finished in British Racing Green. 1.8L (110 cid) four-cylinder.
Current mileage: 16,410.
I am the second owner. The car comes with its original handbook showing the early service records, plus a detailed ownership history written by the first owner.
Ownership & Restoration History
The previous owner purchased the car and enjoyed it for years before two long storage periods.
In 1997 it received a thorough ground-up, engine-out restoration. Highlights from that work included:
• Engine balanced, ported & polished, and bored for slightly oversized pistons
• Full interior rebuild with Wilton carpet and Connolly-quality leather and piping to match the new British Racing Green paint (matched to the specific BRM team Racing Green)
• All nuts and bolts tumbled and re-plated
• Cotton wiring harness unwrapped, re-wired, and re-wrapped
The car was then enjoyed again before another long storage period beginning in 2003. It was lightly refreshed in 2013 (fluids, dual 6-volt batteries, belts and hoses) before coming to me.
Recent Engine Work (2021)
At 15,824 miles the engine was completely removed, disassembled, cleaned, inspected, and rebuilt by Glenn’s MG Repair in St. Petersburg, Florida (Repair Order #12510). Work included:
• Full teardown, ball-hone of cylinders, block cleaning
• Machine work on the head and block
• New performance road camshaft, cam followers, gaskets, seals, pushrods, oil pump, water pump, clutch kit, and related components
• Mild cam specification as requested
• Complete reassembly, timing, and break-in
Total investment in the engine (parts + labor) was approximately $16,000. The car has covered only about 586 miles since the rebuild. Full invoice from Glenn’s is available.
Additional Recent Work
• New wire wheels
• New tires
Overall Condition
This is a well-documented, two-owner MGB GT with a solid older restoration and a fresh, professionally rebuilt engine. The paint and leather still present very well. It is a strong driver-quality example rather than a neglected project car.
Clean title. Serious inquiries welcome. Additional photos, the original handbook, the first owner’s written history, and the complete Glenn’s MG Repair invoice available upon request.
