1960 MG MGA Additional Info:

Up for sale is my 1960 MGA 1600 chassis number GHNL 71368. This car was purchased from it’s long-term owner who had owned the car from the mid-1960’s up until he passed away and I was able to purchase the car from his estate in 2019. He was a prominent electrical engineer, credited with a number of patents, and as his life and career got busy the MGA was parked in storage around 1984. As a result, the car has been off the road for 42+ years and requires extensive mechanical work to be roadworthy again.

However, it’s years stored away mean that the MGA’s body remains in really good solid condition, with all exterior body panels showing very minimal rust or damage, with the exception of a dent above the grill from an impact, and the rocker panel on the passenger’s side of the car which looks like it’s received some filler prior to the car being stored. I’ve done my best to take photos that show the condition of the body, which is remarkable for the age of the car. The car looks to have been a factory Black car with black leather and blue top, side curtains and piping. It appears that it was given a single repaint to the orange/red color many decades ago.

The interior has been removed from the car as the seats were badly deteriorated, but the seat frames, along with the interior panels (except the door cards) are included. The car also comes with a new carpet kit, two convertible top frames, both with old worn material, side curtains, one good grille shell, one damaged grille with a good original emblem on it and two front bumper ends.

The car has a custom made metal dashboard, resembling the original but with additional gauges and switches, it does have its original tachometer and speedometer, both in excellent condition. A factory MGA steering wheel is in place and in good shape, as is the windshield frame and glass which only has one small chip in it.

The car does have its original 1600 engine, engine number 16GA-U-H-28346, and is complete with original dual SU carbs. The car is currently not running, nor have I attempted to start the car during my ownership of it. Brake & clutch hydraulics should also be addressed as they have deteriorated from sitting, and I have not tested the car’s electrics.

Additionally, the car’s frame has suffered from rust along the area next to the front floor boards, as shown in the photos, and should be repaired. The frame rust appears to be isolated to these areas as the front and rear sections of the frame look OK on visual inspection. The wood floorboards are reasonably solid, the rear battery boxes are in great condition, and the trunk floor has a few small rust holes but remains mostly solid.

This is a factory wire wheel car, and all five wire wheels (spare included) appear solid and sound without any significant corrosion or damage, and all tires, while weather cracked, hold air consistently. The car rolls on it's wheels easily and can be pushed around with little effort.

This is a very original car that has been off the road for a long time. It would make a great restoration candidate, or fix the frame, get the mechanicals sorted out and enjoy the car as a survivor – that was my plan, but I have not had the time to give it much attention and don’t want to see it sit any longer.

This is a No Reserve auction, the car will be sold to the highest bidder with a clean Tennessee title, in my name. It can be viewed in Lakeland Tennessee, about 30 minutes outside of Memphis. This is a non-running vehicle and must be trailered. I can help arrange shipping anywhere in the world at the buyers expense.

I have many more detailed photos that I can provide upon request showing the underside, body panels and included parts.
$500 non-refundable deposit required within 24 hours of auction close. The final payment is to be received within 10 days of confirmation, US bank drafts, cash and wire transfers accepted. Will coordinate with buyer to finalize balance of payment and pickup.
