Vehicle Details
Up for sale is a fantastic and all original 1978 MGB with factory installed overdrive and wire wheels / Pirelli tires (14”) and best of all it ONLY has 17,633 original miles on it!!! This one is a rare find and you will not be disappointed. The car is Carmine red (dark red) with a beige interior.
This car was originally purchased 2-24-78. I even have the sales receipt from the original owner. He passed away on 5-27-2000 and the car was appraised and later purchased by a second generation British mechanic. He titled it on 7-24-2000 with only 2,041 miles on it. He kept the car for approximately three years and spent over 42 hours to perform a very complete service and inspection as well as some updates. He added approximately 4K in miles to the odometer. I purchased the car in March 2003 with approximately 6100 miles on it and have since put approximately 11K miles on it in 21 years. This car has never once let me sit and actually never has had any problems with the engine or transmission. The car has NEVER seen rain and is garage kept so NO RUST anywhere!! Below are some of the updates the previous owner did prior to me purchasing the car.
It currently sports 15” X 5.5” center-lock alloy wheels (spline drive) with 185/65 – HR15 Dunlop 060–A2 tires. I have all the original wire wheels, including the spare, which has never been removed from the trunk. It has an O.E. oil cooler, Cibie Bobi head lamps, halogen tail lamp bulbs, (8W, 30W), special tuning front sway bar (3/4”), period Alpine AM/FM/cassette stereo, Pertronix ignition system (undetectable installation) and Amco floor mats. It has the original top, tonneau, boot cover, tools, and owner’s manual. It even has the original factory inspector’s chalk marks on the timing cover and differential. The original wiring harness has never been molested; it still has the original blue wrapping tape. It even has the original key inside the right front fender well.
This car is unbelievable and has always performed FLAWLESSLY! All knobs, turn smoothly, the windows and door wings operate smoothly; it runs and drives as if it were driven off of the showroom floor. Everything operates as new, although it handles and rides much nicer than new with the upgrades fitted.
The interior is cosmetically FLAWLESS!! The exterior has some minor flaws. The driver’s door has received some parking lot type dings just below the molding and a scratch on the quarter panel.
Also, I have all four original wire wheels and original sway bar fitted with the car. The only mechanical work I performed on the car in 21 years was a replacement battery, right side fan motor and a fuel line hose. The car saw the inside of a British shop only once for a valve tuning adjustment, that’s it. I performed the oil, lube and filter every 3K miles with special VR1 racing oil (ZDDP) which better protects the cam and lifters; I also rotated the tires. The top works perfectly! Good luck bidding!!
