This 1977 MG Midget has plenty of distinct styling touches and some well-placed upgrades. But at its core, it still delivers classic lines and a terrific driving attitude - all for a value price.
The car's finish has a good gloss in the sunshine for a nice convertible style, and overall, it's a driver-quality finish because this is a car that's made for really hitting the road on a whim. That's why you have classic driver-oriented details like the rear luggage rack. These are joined by worthwhile well-integrated upgrades like the clear headlights and minilite-style wheels. We also like the creamy yellow color, because it provides a tasteful contrast to the dark elements. The black rockers, black bumpers, and full-length black pinstripe offer a nicely coordinated darkness. And when the newer (2015) black soft top is in place, this basically looks like a thoughtful two-tone machine.
As distinct as this looks with the roof up, a Midget is most fun when open to the world. We like that you have a choice between a convertible boot or a racing-style tonneau, and they are both in black to coordinate with the exterior accents. Plus, the tan interior adds an extra dimension of attractiveness because it goes with the earth tone style of the exterior yellow. Well-done bucket seats, a center console, and a full set of Smiths gauges make for an engaging classic. And just like the exterior, you also have upgrades you'll really want, like the grippy wood-rimmed sports steering wheel. And the radio is now a modern AM/FM unit with USB and Bluetooth for the best in driving music.
These final generation Midgets received the largest motor ever available to these sprightly MGs. The 1493 cc inline-four under the hood produced more torque than the earlier 1275 cc unit, which made it better suited to American tastes. The engine bay has the look of regular maintenance, and the way it runs well reaffirms the feeling of good care. There was a new clutch kit this year, and so you have an even more confident action to the four-speed manual transmission. The light body weight, independent front suspension, and front disc brakes all contribute to the sporting attitude.
Complete with maintenance records, this is a terrific driver's Midget. You may use the value price to update details like the paint or heater, but from day one, you'll be overall impressed with the features and fun that this one delivers. That's why we know it will be leaving us soon. Call today!!!
