1980 MGB Mk IV Roadster is a wonderful turnkey convertible. It is one of the last few hundred B’s built based on its commission number;512,770. A very nice example, mostly in original condition, that spent over 27 yrs.in long term ownership prior to my acquisition of the car earlier this year. The car was originally sold by Harry’s (On the Hill) in Ashville South Carolinabefore coming to Ohio in 1992. Since coming north it has always been garaged. The “B” is the original Vermilion Red and has had a partial Re-spray. Black interior and a black grained top with zipout rear window, also a full tonneau cover and a boot cover. The car has 79,940actual miles; runs, starts, and drives very nicely. Recent oil change and tuneup. The brakes also were serviced and adjusted.
Yes, the electrics work. No, there are no electrical issues.
The engine is original to the car and makes good oilpressure. The Zenith Stromberg Carburetor has been rebuilt, and a moredependable Crane Fireball electronic ignition replaced the original Lucas electronicunit. The A.I.R. injection pump has beenremoved but comes with the car as well as the original 8-Track FM/AM radio withbrochure which has since been replaced with a more modern CD FM/AM unit. Other than that, the car is as delivered in1980.
The trunk and underside are very clean, rust free andoriginal. All the jacking tools and the boot cover cross bows are in theiroriginal bags. The original Roadstyle wheels have the optional stainless-steeltrim rings and 70 series Yokohama tires.
The underside also features a brand-new MONZA exhaustsystem, new replacement gas tank, sender and fuel pump. The suspension is good, replacement GT-V8 bushing and good kingpins.
The black interior is original and is in very goodcondition. The carpet, door cards, console, and are in very good condition. Thegauges have nice clear lens’. All the weather stripping is still supple and invery good condition as well. A leather shift Knob has been added.
The body is solid and straight. The Door gaps are very good. The floors and inner fenders are very nice and rust free. The bumpers are alsoin very good condition. All the stainless and bright work still looks good. Thereis a crease in the left front fender and some surface deterioration that can beseen. These minor imperfections are visible in the photogallery.
This is a very nice clean example of a late production 1980“B” in a very interesting factory color. The car is completely turn-key and ajoy to drive.
The car has service records and bill of sale going back to1992.
