Morris Garage, an English sports car company, got their start in the early 1920's when they lowered the chassis of Morris Cowleys and fitted them with more sporting bodywork. In the mid to late '30's, the company began producing the MG Series T-Type Midgets.
The MG TD was the fourth iteration in the series and benefited from accumulating improvements to the basic design. Improvements were made to the engine, chassis, and clutch, even the wheels were changed to ventilated steel to prevent brake fade from insufficient cooling. Externally the cars evolved from the earliest days as well, with increasingly sleek body work, and for the TD, addition of bumpers front and back, a first for the series. A substantial number of these cars were shipped abroad, particularly to the United States.
This lovely red 1951 MG TD, located right here in Collierville, TN, is one such example. The right hand drive makes clear the car's pedigree, and turns out to be no real challenge for driving on this side of the Pond. The car drives well, and draws smiles, approving looks, compliments and thumbs up wherever it goes. It's a real conversation starter and fun to drive!
