1969 MG MGB Additional Info:
This is my 1969 MGB GT in BRG with a Cream colored top. It is such a great cruisingcar! I'm selling her to make room for another project. The car was restored from a "barn find" in 2010. I bought the car 2 years ago and totally rebuilt the engine as well as fixing lots of other things. I want to be totally up front with everything I know. I don't want any surprises when the buyer receives the car. The things that are wrong with the car are not safety or reliability compromising. Therefore, I haven't messed with them because we do enjoy driving and enjoying it. Anything that would be unsafe or affect reliability was taken care of immediately.
Here are some of the good points:- Engine rebuilt: New pistons, rings, h-beam rods, all internal bearings, cam, all gaskets, tappets, pushrods, oil pump, and oil pressure sending unit. (I may have forgotten some things. I tried to forget how much I spent on all of this...LOL) All of the engine machine work was done here locally by a highly trusted 40-year veteran machinist. The engine has approx 5k miles on it. (I can go look at my paperwork and do the math if requested) The car has an estimated 10k miles on her since restoration.- Transmission is a 4 speed with electric OD. OD (5th gear) works fine. I replaced the entire internal solenoid and valve that engages 5th with all new parts from Moss.- Has a somewhat rare Banjo style steering wheel. Most of these get broken due to people pulling on them when exiting the vehicle. - NEW Chrome Wire Wheels. I purchased these 15" wheels from England. I replaced the wheels, tires, splined hubs, and spinners around a year ago.- Rust free undercarriage. This has always been a southern car and has never seen salted roads. Has original floorboards and sheet metal.- Good electrical system. When the car was restored in 2010 by my brother, he went through the entire wiring harness and painstakingly replaced/repaired every electrical connection. After thoroughly cleaning every connector, he applied dielectric grease to each connector.- Fuel tank was new when restored. Fuel pump was replaced this year.- Interior is in good shape. It's not a Pebble Beach ready car, but it gets plenty of looks at car shows!- All gauges work. With exception to the tach. Tachometer will quit working intermittently. Hit the right bump and thetachwill go out. Tap the dash and it will come back. Probably a simple fix, I just don't feel like getting under there to fix it because it's not totally essential.- New brake and clutch master cylinder. I replaced the brake and clutch master cylinders this year. I flushed the system and went with silicone fluid so that if it ever leaked or spilled, it wouldn't eat the paint.- New winshield- 12vdc, negative ground electrical system. Single battery setup.
Bad points:- still leaks a lil oil....I replaced EVERY gasket and seal in this engine while it was staring me in the face. I used the highest quality gaskets available. If she sits in my shop for a couple weeks or so, there will be a dime-sized drop of oil under her. I'm probably exaggeratinga little here, but I just want to be totally honest. I've been told that they all leak due to the design of the engine. They said if it's not leaking, be worried because it's out of oil. LOL.- found front boot of steering rack to be broken. I have a spare unit that goes with the car. If you'd like to change it, the boots are good on the spare. Or, a new one can be purchased from Moss. If you don't want to change it, it's no big deal.- Paint chip behind the tire on the driver's side. The tire must have slung somethingup. I have some touch-up paint that comes with the car. I just don't feel like doing it and will leave that up to the next owner. See photos on my website listed above.- 2 little paint bubbles on the drivers side. Again, see the photos on my website for details.- Drivers side seats have a tear where the internal metal bar passes under the upholstery.- No spare tire. If this is important, one can be purchased on ebay or a collector for very little since condition isn't important.
I have a few boxes of spare parts. I also have 2 spare doors and a 4 speed transmission. I can include these with the sale, or if you don't want them, I can get rid of them. I don't know how much stuff is allowed to ship with the car if it's not a local pickup.
