1974 MG MGB Additional Info:
Original Bracken Orange car. Built 5/74. HARDTOP/ SOFT TOP/ TONNEAU COVER INCLUDED
I bought this car as a barn find. It did not start, run, shift, stop and none of the lights or gauges worked.
Over time I put her back together with as much care and love as the last owner gave her.
It's important to note that ALL parts used were made in America or England, no Chinese crap with the exception of the front brake lines.
I have thousands in receipts for work/ maintenance performed by last owner and myself.
The 1800cc motor starts on the first crank, does not leak, does not smoke.
Non Overdrive 4 speed trans shifts smoothly
All lights, blinkers, and gauges work, but more importantly they read accurately. This car was driven to and from Seaside, New Jersey (50 miles round trip) to make sure everything works as it should. As the car sits, I would not hesitate to take it anywhere.
All original with two modifications for driveability- (1) I converted the twin battery system to a single 12 volt. The other battery compartment can be storage (2) The 25D distributor has been converted to electronic so there's no more points.
Highlights (Among many things): Rebuilt front suspension (Bushings, bearings, brakes, etc.)
Rebuilt original HIF4 carbs
New fluids (coolant, oil and trans oil). Both take 20w50
New fuel tank
I am currently waiting for the antenna, emergency brake cable, throttle choke cable, and a few other odds that are in the mail, so when they get here if the car isn't sold will be installed.
Those looking probably know what is so special about this car, but for those who don't, early '74s are the last of the true steel bumper cars. The unsightly bumperettes (overriders is a more technical term) are original and were put on to meet increasingly stringent federal safety standards. This lasted only for so long until all MG's from 1974 1/2 - 1980 came standard with rubber bumpers. I have the convertible frame in good shape along with it's top in a box. The car will be sold with a snug top (hard top) that just received top of the line weatherstripping and a tonneau cover that can cover the whole cabin or just the passenger area, The hardtop covers the roll bar no problem. The headlights have steel mesh over them that can be removed but add a cool vintage racer look.
The interior is very nice, newer carpets and sound deadening. Seats are in excellent condition, no cracks tears or visible signs of wear and the headrests are plush. The sun visors are in good condition visibly but the foam inside is so old it turned to dust, so I took them out. The vent window chrome is excellent as well. The rollbar is a nice feature and adds peace of mind in a car that can fit inside a suburban. It is bolted in.
The worst thing I can say about this car is it has rust on the front right wheel wheel, just behind the tire. It's not bad, it's not pressing, but it's worth noting. The car has dings, the car has dents, as you see is it how it will be when you see it and it is a very nice driver quality car, but it will take paint and body work to make it concourse. The car I have no doubt received a full body respray sometime long ago. I am not sure why this was needed, but the frame rails are straight and so is the body, so I wasn't concerned about it when I purchased the car. You shouldn't be either. Careful checking in certain spots confirmed to me this is an original Bracken orange car, exactly how it left the factory.
The largest scratch is on the passenger side door, I personally would replace the door or have it fixed. There is a 1" crack in it just below the wing window and I'd imagine the car had it's mirror taken off by either a female driver (lol) just kidding just kidding or by something else, because I did have to install a new mirror.I know there are things I am forgetting so do not hesitate to message me and ask plenty of questions. I urge all bidders to inspect the car prior to bidding, however I know this is not always possible so if there's a specific area of the car you want to see just ask kindly and I will be happy to send you pics. Car's for sale locally, I reserve the right to end bidding early. I am not responsible for shipping, I will assist if I can, but the legwork is on you.
