Offering for sale my 1972 MGB that has been part of my personal car collection. I purchased the car from a long-term owner (25+ years) who had used the MG as a fair weather driver at his cottage in the Muskokas . Prior to that, the car was originally purchased new & resided in California until being imported to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, as a result the body on the car is in phenomenal condition and is largely rust free, straight & with excellent panel fitment. The floors, rocker panels, inner sills, etc are all original and free of rust or rot, the car received one respray in its original ‘Blaze Red’ in the early 2000’s. The paint job was well done and it has held up very well with no fading & still showing a deep even gloss. Of course, there are some minor imperfections that have been touched up but nothing really noteworthy or out of the ordinary for a 46 year old car, overall the car shows extremely well & can be shown at any classic car event with pride.
The rest of the exterior is in similar condition with a brand new convertible top (with zip-out rear window) recently and professionally installed. The factory equipped wire wheels have been refinished and sport 195/75/R14 tires with plenty of tread life. The chrome work is original and very presentable, but does show some minor pitting and other imperfections on close inspection. The window seals and header rail seal were all replaced at the same time the top was installed.
The interior is equally nice; a new carpet kit was installed when the car was painted and still looks like new. Door cards and interior panels are also all in great shape; the dashboard is in excellent condition with no cracks or fading. The original black seats are well preserved and comfortable with no obvious tears or damage the foam cushions are showing no signs of deterioration. An aftermarket roll-bar has been installed in the car, it fits inside the convertible top and adds to the cars sporty look & safety. The previous owner had a newer Alpine CD player and two Boston Acoustics door speakers professionally installed in the car; the system works and sounds superb.
The trunk is totally rust free, but the original paint does show scratches and wear from 46 years of use. It comes with a matching spare wire wheel and factory tool kit, complete with the original storage roll. Also included are both the quarter length and full length tonneau covers for use when the top is down.
The MGB runs straight and drives well with no front end or steering clunks or rattles; recent work includes a new battery, spark plugs, factory style SU fuel pump, alternator and front brake flex lines, along with a fresh oil change. The original dual SU carburetors were also recently serviced and tuned. The engine pulls strong with no hesitation, backfires or smoke of any kind from the exhaust pipe, holding good oil pressure (60+lbs hot), shifts smooth and brakes with confidence. The MG rides well with no unusual vibrations or noises; I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere.
All electronics and accessories work as they should including the 5-digit odometer which reads: “03477”, I’m sure this is not the correct mileage but uncertain as to whether or not the speedo has been replaced at some point in the past or if the actual mileage is “103477”, given the cars overall condition and summer only usage for the last 25+ years I suspect that the odometer has gently rolled-over.
This car is a great survivor having never been apart or restored; it has been used sparingly and driven with care, and its condition certainly reflects that. It’s not a perfect car, but it is mechanically safe, reliable, extremely solid and original, and would make a great fair-weather driver that would show well at your local cruise night or MG meet.
I have tried to take pictures of all aspects of the car including the underside, however I don't have a hoist and took them lying underneath. If you want specific pics please feel free to ask, I will do my best to accommodate.Ask as many questions as you like, I will respond quickly & as accurately as I can.
