1974 MG MGB Additional Info:
Outstanding one family owned 1974 MGB Rare chrome bumper Roadster. This is an interesting car because it is a very early model-year build so it does not have those big rubber overriders and does not have the rubber bumpers which came out later in the year. This car was built in October of 1973 and build as a US destined car. It was delivered new into Connecticut and enjoyed for many years by the owner. Eventually the car was showing its age and he had the car repainted and color changed the car from red to white. The quality of work was good and the car was for the most part rust free when done.
The exterior has all original sheet metal with absolutely no bondo or rust repair. The rockers and lower fenders are all solid. The base of the rear window above the trunk is also solid steel original. The lower front passenger side quarter has bubbles in the paint indicating the beginnings of rust underneath but is still solid. You can see in the pictures. Aside from this area, here are no more rust areas on the sheet metal of the car.
The underside is all original and even has some original rust proofing on it. It can be seen in the photos. There are small areas of rust through under the drivers floor only and could without question be repaired with patches. The car has no other rust anywhere. Of particular note, he trunk is immaculate with all original metal and no rust anywhere. Another known rust area on these is the lower battery box behind the passenger seat. There is no rust there and it is all original.
The paint is average with minor orange peel and a few chips throughout. It is applied evenly and none of the panels are even a shade off. In a few pictures due to the outside sunlight, he paint almost appears light blue. The car is white. Any other appearance is due to the sunlight or other outside lighting influences. I did not have the best space to photograph it but we are deep in winter here and I wanted to keep the car inside.
The car as its original engine and transmission. It is a four speed tranny but with no overdrive. The car ran regularly up until two years ago when it was parked due to the health of the owner. The car has fresh gas and a good battery and I have yard driven it. The brakes are firm and the steering seems to be good. I would encourage a detailed inspection by a mechanic before taking the car on a long drive.
The interior is excellent original. There are no tears in the seats and the dash is in good condition. The car is a radio delete car and happily non one cut in a radio or speakers. The car has two apparent modifications from original. The first is a wood kit for the interior. It is in pristine condition. The second is the aftermarket wheels that I've seen on other MGB's but do not look as good as the originals. I have an original spare in the trunk.
The top appears to be brand new with no tears or damage at all. The car has a full top boot in good condition and what appears to be a nice original tonneau cover. I've tried to show the car with all three in place.
The bumpers are nice. The front bumper has some bumps from either a few minor run ins with a garage wass or an attempted repair. The rear is nice and smooth. The over riders are the small (pre Federalized) units that the EPA screamed about shortly after the '74's started coming to the USA. This is a pre-Sabrina '74 which were only built for a matter of weeks prior to the beginning of the larger bumper overriders.
That about covers it. The car has its jack, ools and a spare on a correct original wheel. It has its original battery lid which is in good shape. The tires are good with plenty of tread life left and no drying. The car is certainly good enough to check out mechanically and just drive and have fun with. The miles on the odometer are believed original from new.
I have a Connecticut registration for the car that is current. As per CT law, here is no title but an official State of CT Q-1 form will be issued to the successful bidder. I also have over 100 pictures of the car. Please feel free to ask and I can email them to you in a large resolution.
Inspections welcome at any time during the auction. Check my feedback and good luck. Thanks!
Thanks and happy bidding.
