Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this very nice MG TF 1500 Roadster. This last and final model of the beloved "T" series production is the most desirable and valuable of the bunch. This car was purchased locally here in Long Beach, California. It retains it's old CA pink slip in the seller's name from 1974. The previous owner of 43 years was nearing completion of a nice restoration on the car when he unfortunately became ill and passed away. The body and wood on this car is excellent and very well-preserved for it's age, with nice fitting panels that close well and line up properly. There are a few areas of the paintwork that could use small touch up or repair. There is a can of paint provided.
Details of the restoration included new bodywork and paint, quality new chrome, new knock-offs, Lucas tripod headlamps, expensive Dayton 72-spoke wire wheels with fitted and balanced Michelin 165x15 radial tires (5), rebuilt matching numbers XPEG engine, new wiring harness, rebuilt instruments, newly powdercoated side curtain set, top frame, and seat frames, new matching beige top, tonneau and sidecurtain kits (still in the original boxes), steering wheel and horn push, etc.
The car is currently fitted with a 4-cylinder Ford engine with a Weber carburetor and a corresponding gearbox. The owner was a member of the MG club here in Southern California was advised to install this setup for plenty of extra horsepower without much modification to the rest of the car, being easily reversable to refit the original rebuilt drivetrain. This would result in a very exciting car to drive ! The original engine (rebuilt) and gearbox are included in the sale of the car and are pictured along with all of the other included items. The car is fitted with a neat period heater box setup already plumbed in and wired up to the car. The dashboard instruments are beautiful.
The car needs very little to finish the restoration at this stage, basically a straightforward simple retrim and some testing to dial in the mechanicals. There's no information available about the current Ford driveline fitted, but I'm sure it checked out to be a good unit before going through the effort to install it...The car's underside is very clean, presentable, and painted with noted work performed to the brakes and suspension.
The car includes all of the pictured associated parts, some new, that I'm sure would nearly finish off the car.Overall, this rare, attractive, and desirable MG TF 1500 Roadster offers excellent value with much money, time, and hard work spent. It is very close to completion and should be an easy and car to finish, yielding an enjoyable and rewarding motorcar.
