I purchased this beautiful Mercury from a car dealer in decent running shape with rust free body, nice paint and great stock interior. For 50 years I have restored & flipped cars and pickups. I was a jet aircraft mechanic in the Air Force and have enjoyed mechanical stuff all my adult life. This is my last restoration project and I spent part-time hours over two years to restore and upgrade this nice Merc. My goal was to do the upgrades to this classic with quality and new parts only. My close friend owns an auto restoration and fabrication shop and the two of us put in hundreds of hours making this car right. We first pulled out all the wiring and converted the car from 6 volt to 12 with all new wiring, connections, fuse blocks and bulbs. We yanked out the old stock 292 “Y” block engine, the original Fordomatic trans, the original rear member and axles. Replacing them with freshly thoroughly rebuilt 1978 Ford 351Windsor engine and a fresh C4 transmission and installed new “posi” rear end with NEW rear axles. Replaced the old standard drum brakes with 4 wheel disc brakes. My buddy is a suspension specialist so we installed air bag suspension with trunk mounted compressor and wired remote control by drivers seat. We completely refurbished engine bay and firewall and installed VinAir air conditioning and modified the dash to accommodate adjustable air vents. Many other upgrades include replacing old vacuum driven windshield wipers with 12v electrical motor driven, new Clarion bluetooth stereo, electric controlled windows, new carpeting and new dash gauges. Underneath there are new headers, stainless dual exhaust pipes with new stainless mufflers and exhaust tips that exit thru the rear bumper. Also installed a new larger quantity new gas tank. All the engine components are new - Edlebrock carb, HEI ignition, oversized aluminum radiator with electric temp controlled fan, new master cylinder, and new power hydraulic steering system.Paint was very good on car body but we repainted the hood, front fenders, roof and rear trunk lid. Roof was stripped to bare metal, re base coated and new pearl white paint with “ghosted” lace inlayed with several gloss top coats. The tires are new Coker’s with 3 inch wide white walls. They are new with about 400 miles on them. The car is rust free and completely undercoated. The Merc has approximately 400-500 total miles driven since all work was finally completed. Beautiful machine and due to my age I knew this was my last restoration so I took my time and concentrated on making it my best ever project!Car is sold “as is” and buyer is responsible for vehicle pickup in Hemet, California.
