1969 Mercury Cougar Additional Info:
Extremely Rare 1969 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Convertible (1st Gen) – Project Car–Rolling Shell + Rebuilt 351W
Why it’s special:
- XR-7 was Mercury’s top-of-the-line Cougar, far rarer than base models.
- First generation — only a few hundred XR-7 convertibles remain worldwide today, making this a very collectible project car.
- Excellent foundation for full restoration or high-value custom build.
1. Core Identity, Paperwork & Rarity
The vehicle’s primary value lies in its confirmed factory data and clean, legal ownership:
- Ownership Document:NY Transferable Registration.(New York State does not issue titles for vehicles pre 1972; the transferable registration serves as the legal proof of ownership was recently renewed at DMV).
- Production Rarity: One of only 4,024 Cougar XR-7 convertibles built for 1969. Very few survive today.
- Original Engine Code (M-Code): The VIN confirms the car was originally built with the high-performanceM-Code (351-4V V8).
- VIN:9F94M518253
2. Included: Rebuilt 351 Windsor
A professionally rebuilt and highly desirable351 Windsor V8 (351W)engine is included.
- Period-Correct: The block features the correctC9OE-6015-Bcasting number and the3C9date code (March 3, 1969), making it the correct type and period for this Cougar.
- Condition: The engine has been rebuilt and is fitted with modifications including an aftermarket aluminum intake manifold, MSD-style distributor, and performance valve covers.
- Engine Match: I couldn’t locate the engine block's VIN derivative stamp to help confirm it as theoriginal factory-installedmotor, it is confirmed to be thecorrect M-Code 351-4V V8 typewith aperiod-correct 1969 date code. It was the late owner's intention for this motor to power the finished car.
- *Please Note: I have not put a wrench on the engine to turn it over. Given the engine’s rebuild and the time it has been sitting, I felt it best to leave that first rotation to the buyer to ensure it’s done carefully—whether by pre-oiling, borescope inspection, or treating the cylinders beforehand.

- Sale includes: Everything shown in the photos. There may also be some miscellaneous XR-7 parts in the garage that will go with the car.
- Bonus:Left and right rear quarter panels (as pictured).
