Up for sale is a 1971 Mercury Marquis Brougham sedan. The clock shows 73,000 miles which I believe it reflects the original mileage. I’ve bought this car a little less than one year ago and the car was deserving some TLC which I gave it to her. The idea was to keep this rare model in my little Full Size car collection, however something came up and a hard decision of letting her go took place.
The Brougham is the top of the line and came originally with the top dog version Big Block 429 ci engine and 4 barrel carburetor. It’s rated 360 HP that easily moves the car. The stereo is the original Mercury unit and it’s working. The power antenna is working, all power windows are working, the power locks are working as well as the power seats.
The car turn heads everywhere.
It was invested more than $5,000 to keep it reliable and gorgeous. These are some of documented maintenance I’ve done to car:
Front suspension rebuilt. All 4 ball joints, lower and upper control arm bushings, tie rod ends changed. It runs smooth and tied.
Rear coil springs replaced to bring her to the correct hight.
New battery.
Brand new Edelbrock AVS 2 Carburetor with the proper Edelbrock Kickdown bracket for the C6 transmission. The engine fires up easily cold or hot.
Distributor was upgraded from points to an electric ignition distributor, including new spark plug wires and high voltage coil.
The AC was also upgraded to a newer AC compressor running R134. It’s working and blowing plenty of cold air.
New fuel tank and new fuel tank lines.
The engine runs strong, quiet and smooth as a 429 ci should. The hideaway headlight are working perfectly.
The interior is in mint condition. The beautiful cloth seats look new, despite of a small stain on the front seat. The door panels look brand new, the dashboard is in very good condition with no cracks or discoloration.
The trunk was treated for rust prevention and it is in a very good condition with the original sticker on the trunk lid.
Flaws: The clock is not working. There are superficial rust on the undercarriage and a couple of rust bubbles in the lower part of the doors and fenders, please see the pictures.. There are minor oil leaking on the engine.
As I mentioned before I treated this car to keep it, not to sell it. The car is running strong, reliable and comfortable. There’s no pending maintenance. It’s just to drive and enjoy.
I try to express with details the overall car condition from the best of my knowledge, however some factos are subjetive so feel free to ask as many question as necessary or request more pictures, I’ll be more than happy to answer all questions.
