It’s quite possible that you’ve never seen a 1948 Mercury M-47 Pickup truck before. That’s because they were only sold in Canada. Ford Motor Company sold Mercury M Series pickup trucks in Canada from 1948 through 1968. They were the cousin to the Ford F1 and F100 sold here in the United States. The Mercury M Series is more rare since they were produced in limited numbers. The Mercury grille is the most significant marking to tell the M Series apart from the F100 Ford trucks.
Although Mercury sold trucks in Canada in 1946 and 1947, it was in 1948 that they introduced the M Series designation. So 1948 was the first year for the M Series and this M-47 is significant of that. The “47” indicates the Gross Vehicle Weight which was 4,700 pounds.
