1971 Mercury Cougar Additional Info:
This has been my muscle car for the last 30 years. The wheels are from a late 1970s Cougar and the steering wheel is from a late 70s mustang. i also blacked out some of the bright work and the rocker panels. I was a mustang guy and this was my first cougar. When the 351 two barrel Cleveland, fmx trans failed, I built a '91 302/5.0 and a c4 trans with a shift kit. Knock off world Windsor junior iron heads, Keith black pistons, Ford e303 cam, roller rocker arms, roller lifters, balanced and blue printed, completely rebuilt suspension with kyb shocks and big fat sway bars front and rear. Everything works on this car, power top, all drivetrain works perfectly, because it's fuel injected it runs like a '90s mustang, even the original sequential tail-lights in the back work great and power windows with the exception of one rear power window that you have to help up. also it has a tremendous sound system with 12 inch subs in the trunk with a separate amp and Cerwin-vega 6x9s in the doors, could use a newer radio though (i used to have a car stereo biz). I had the front window replaced because it had little scratches on it. I love this car every time I drive it, but it needs to be driven and i've just finished our 10 year project (1940 Packard) and it's all i want to drive right now.
What's great about this car? classic American front end with sports car styling, newer chrome, Very tight controlled suspension, fuel injected, built 302, c4 trans with shift kit and a 3.71 nine inch rear end (because it has the tow option) which has it geared very low and makes it very fun to scoot around town and reliable. Power top and windows, also great sound system with two twelve inch subs in trunk, separate amp and cerwin-vega speakers in the doors. What's not: 15 year old restoration, 30 years ago for the bodywork, replaced the floors and one rear quarter from the junk yard. replacement interior panels are plastic.
