1971 Mercury Grand Marquis Additional Info:
Purchased new in 1971, this one owner Mercury is in pristine condition, and shows only 32K clocked miles! Virtually all original condition, and everything excellent, this big baby spent her life mostly in the comfort of a garage. You can look very carefully at the photos and will find little wrong with this consignment. A test drive will have you literally floating down the road with plenty of metal and comforts surrounding you as you do so.
Several gallons of original Medium Ginger Bronze Metallic (AKA Glamour Paint) cover the exterior of this land yacht. All in pristine condition. Chrome bumpers are in very nice condition, and the rear bumper has wrap around tail lighting. Fender skirts add to the cool look, and aftermarket spoked wheels have replaced the original wheel covers, which the owner states will come with the car. All brightwork is clear, and colorful as well as shiny. Unusual construction of a half pillar in the center of the car can be seen between the large doors. The car is topped off with a wonderful chocolate vinyl top. Hidden functioning headlights are seen in front. With this car they'll know you've arrived!
Many yards of fine woven near silk like material, again pristine, covers the front split bench seats. In beautiful brown brocade pattern tufted and buttoned into a triangulated stitch pattern, is in the center of plain brown bolsters also in cloth. The rear bench is the same, and this writer is not so sure anyone has ever sat back there! Door panels make use of a fine mix of the matching brocade pattern fabric, vinyl and carpeting, and a smattering of wood veneer. Rich brown carpeting underscores the interior seats and dash. The dash is square and derivation thereof 1970's design and houses analog instrumentation. A perfect headliner is all there, and many convenience options reside in the cabin as well. Power steering, air conditioning, power windows and power brakes, make your driving experience all pleasure.
The star of the show for me is the 429 cubic inch V8, which almost unbelievably only has a two-barrel carburetor. It may not be original, but one of the first things I'd do is install a four-barrel to unleash the power of the huge engine. A 3-speed select shift automatic is there, and shows slight leakage, which could be attributed to a dried gasket due to not a lot of recent road time. Weighing in at 4563 lbs. this is a true cruiser.
A 31,000 mile garage find, all original, no rust, no accidents, all working example of early '70's luxury. A time piece waiting to be used for a long haul or an evening out that will turn heads, back to 1971, or back to the future.
