1964 Mercury Comet Caliente Additional Info:
This 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente has had one repaint more than a decade ago and still shines up nicely but it does have numerous scratches that have been touched up with matching paint. It looks very nice for a daily driver but will need minor body and paint work to regain show quality. It should be an easy project over the winter to get it ready for next year's car shows.
This car is an original, unadulterated survivor with the exception of a one-wire alternator, Edelbrock aluminum intake, four barrel 4100 carb, and an aftermarket stereo hidden in the glove box. The original interior has one small tear in the top rear seat back corner and a small tear in the rear passenger side headliner. The original carpet is still in great shape. The body has had minor work at the time of repaint and now shows rust only behind the lower rear wheel wells and isolated rust through under the passenger front kick panel. The rust appears to have started when the fender was replaced but the antenna seal was not reinstalled and water apparently ran down the side of the kick panel. Overall, the body appears to be very solid otherwise. It has what I think are rims from a 68 Mustang and three of the original hubcaps are also included.
This car has had over $2000 worth of parts purchased in the past two years or so and some of them have still not been installed including a complete set of front suspension parts that will be included in the sale. It has a refreshed gas tank, fuel sending unit, complete brake system, and starter along with other parts.
Although the air cleaner says 289, this car comes with its original 260 cubic inch engine. The 260 V8 runs well but the timing, dwell, and four barrel carburetor probably could use an adjustment as the car has been sitting for several years. The 4100 four barrel carb is from a 390 engine and should have smaller jets installed to get it to work optimally. It does run and drive well enough to safely travel but I have not driven it more than about 40 miles at one time. The C4 transmission has recently had the bands adjusted and the seals replaced. I would keep this car but I no longer have a place to store it inside and do not want to see it sit out in the elements over the winter. Check my feedback and bid with confidence.
