Up for auction is our 1978 Mercury Bobcat Villager wagon. This little 2-door station wagon has 22,000 original miles and is very original.
Very few Mercury Bobcat Villagers survive today and the ones that are in existence are in poor condition. This could possibly be one of the best examples known to exist today.
The exterior is all original and shows very little wear. The paint is all original and only has a few small stone chips/scratches (been carefully touched up and are hard to notice). The wood grain is also original and in near perfect condition. The trim, brightwork and glass is all very nice. Hubcaps are perfect with no dings or curb rash, the wheels have new whitewall radial tires and the spare tire/wheel are originals and unused. This wagon is also equipped with a factory installed roof rack, adding to its character.
The interior condition is very impressive! Absolutely no stains or wear anywhere and its all original. The seats are trimmed in an unmistakable plaid cloth bringing a smile to anyone who peers inside. The carpet, door panels and headliner are like new. The dash is also impressive, no sun fade or cracking anywhere. All the gauges are crisp and clear and work as expected. The radio, heater, horn, signals, wipers all work perfect too.
Under the hood is the optional 2.8L V-6 (171 c.i.) with a C-4 automatic transmission. Power steering and power disc brakes make it easy to drive. Nothing under the hood has been spray painted or altered in any way. Many of the original inspection markings and tags are still present. It is very original right down to the factory dated spark plug wires. It has been recently serviced and is very dependable and runs perfect with no leaks or issues of any kind.
This Bobcat wagon is truly a pleasure to drive and feels like a new car. It is also very tight and solid with no rattles or squeaks. Everywhere we have driven this cool little wagon it always draws a crowd; people can’t help but smile when they look at it. Many people have never even seen one before, while others remember them and have not seen one for years! It has a great look, is SUPER RARE and is a FUN car to own.
