1991 Mercury Capri Additional Info:
This is a 1991 Mercury Capri XR2 5-speed turbo convertible with 105,632 miles and no hardtop. I am the second owner, as far as I know - ( I do not have a Carfax report). I have had the car since 2003 and have always kept the car in the garage. I have averaged about 800 miles per year, as I have only used the car during the summer. Within the past 6,000 miles the car has had: a tune-up, new brakes and brake lines, new struts, and new fuel lines. The engine starts right up and runs very strong, and the transmission shifts smoothly with a short throw. The tires are good, all lights and electrical are functional, although the pop-up headlamp on the right side moves slowly (it may just need lubrication and more use, as I did not drive it at night). The power windows and locks work well.
The engine is a tough Mazda turbo that still runs smoothly, and the platform is also a Mazda design. The car passed emissions at about 100,000 miles, although emissions are lo longer required due to its age (in Wisconsin and Illinois). There is a plate near the catalytic converter that rattles at times but mechanics have told me it's nothing to worry about. There are no fluid leaks. There is very little rust - the spots are shown in the photos. The original interior is very good - one small tear on the seat's upholstery - I put seat covers on just for the look.
There is a small dent on the front of the car near the Mercury emblem - that was one reason for the hood bra. Not worth taking the bra off for a picture, but worth noting. The manual convertible top works well, as far as putting it up and taking it down is concerned. However the plastic glass window is cracked, and visibility through it is poor. Although the vinyl top is somewhat faded, there is no splitting or cracking, and keeps the rain out.
Overall, the exterior is okay, but there are nicks and scratches everywhere on the body. There are strange scratches (at first I thought was dirt) on the passenger side. The close-up photos show them, but they are not notable at a distance. The A/C is not working. The radio works intermittently (I think a ground wire is loose, but I never checked). There is a very slow leak from the rear driver side tire - air needs to be added about once a month. The car has a spare tire, and an extra wheel. An owner's manual, maintenance records and the original window sticker are also included. The car is sold "as is".
The Autocheck above information is not quite correct. As stated earlier, I have had the car since 2003. We used to live in North Riverside, IL, but moved to Willowbrook, IL in 2015. Though registered in Illinois, I keep the car at our Wisconsin home. The car is located in Silver Lake, WI, located between Kenosha and Lake Geneva, just north of the Illinois border near Antioch.
Cosmetically it's not a beauty but it's just plain fun to drive. I hate to give it up after all this time, but getting in and out of it in my advanced years is becoming a chore. There's way too much life left in it just to junk it or donate it. Thanks for looking.
