1973 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Additional Info:
Very original and well maintained Cougar XR-7 Convertible. Two rare options including factory air conditioning and power windows. Only 3166 were built and a small fraction have air and power windows.
The paint is excellent and most of the trim is very nice as well. The original front and rear bumpers have mild pitting but are straight and solid. They look great from 10 feet. The gaps and panel fit are very good. There is no serious rust anywhere on the car. A small spot is located on the drivers rocker panel just behind the door edge and aside from there, I can't find any. You can see in the pictures.
The interior is entirely original and very well maintained. The two front seats and drivers and passenger side door panels need to be replaced as you can see in the images. Kits are available and very inexpensive. The rear seat is excellent original and needs nothing.
The top is original with glass window that is excellent. The vinyl has some light staining but no puncture, holes or tears. The boot is perfect.
The car starts and runs very well. There is a little play in the floor shifter which is typical for the Ford automatics of the era. The neutral safety switch DOES work (which is rather rare for Fords of that era).
The car has its original factory radio, factory air conditioning, and power windows. All of the electrical components work well. It has buckets seats and console which I think all of them did.
The underside is original and the floors are good. The trunk is also original, very tidy and has NO rust or repairs to it.
This is a fun summer driver. It is not worth restoring as values are not super high on these even when perfect. I am putting up a very reasonable buy it now and will listen to offers throughout the auction. If not sold, I will do the seats and door panels and send off to auction in Florida. I've tried to price it fairly so that someone can do the interior and still be left with ample room in the car.
The car is in Harrisburg, PA at a Shelby shop awaiting interior if not sold this week. Please feel free to call with any questions or if you'd like to see it.
With less than 3200 built, this is an extremely rare car. It is a lot of car for the money...easy to repair and work on, and not a lot of maintenance costs.
Thanks and good luck.
