1963 Mercury Monterey Additional Info:
NO RESERVE
1963 Mercury Monterey Custom Convertible. This car is 1 of 3,783 produced in 1963, Last year of production before becoming the 1963-1/2 Mercury Maurader.
Canadian assembled in Oakville Ontario.
Three owner car. We have owned the car for the past 5 years. Used occasionally during summer months. Stored indoors until recently. Loss of storage facility forces sale.
Engine is original 352, has 46,260 miles, with Dual Range Auto Transmission.
Engine starts and runs without any issues. Exhaust is complete and car actually sounds pretty mean out the rear. Passenger side Manifold does have exhaust leak.
Power steering is there, but lacking. We only ever drove it occasionally, so we just muscled it around turns.Brand New Battery.
Auto Transmission functions and shifts properly.
All electrical, lights, turn signals, and gauges work properly.Tires have tread, hold air, and still have plenty of life.
Car was originally Corinthian White but was repainted at some point. The door jams, trunk and underside of hood match the exterior blue accordingly. The only place you can see original white paint is inside where the convertible top retracts into the body. Scratches and scraps are visible, but no dents.
The question of all questions!!! Is there Rust?
The car is pretty rust free overall. Basic surface rust on the undercarriage as expected. Trunk and floor boards are complete. Only visible rust spot is on lower drivers side door. The paint is however also starting to bubble on the lower drivers side rear panel. It has been repainted, so I would assume there is also some filler in it somewhere. I am not a restoration or car guy, and this car is a 55 year old Michigan car, it is not perfect but a great survivor.
The fabric top has a few small holes on each side and should be replaced if car is to be left out in the elements. The retractable top motor is also getting very slow. It sometimes will retract on it's own and other times the motor will hum with no movement unless you physically assist it.
All interior and exterior trim is complete. Small scratches and some small dents on exterior trim, but nothing is missing.
Interior fabric is complete. The seats do have leather seat covers installed over the original leather seats. These covers are actually installed underneath some of the seat hardware. You can only see the original leather by inspecting the underside and edges of the seats. I do not know what the condition of the original leather is, but I would assume that it should be in decent condition as all the other interior panels are decent. I am not disassembling the seat hardware to inspect the original leather. It is there, assume what you will on condition. Door panels are complete, but show some wear and imperfections.
This car Starts, Runs, Drives, Stops, and Looks decent.
If you're interested in a good survivor car, this is it.
If you're looking for a restoration project, this is a great candidate.
If you're looking for a perfect vehicle without having to put any work into it, keep looking.
