The Mercury Cougar was first introduced in 1967 and finally gave the brand its own pony car. The Cougar was based on the Mustang and featured a lot of shared mechanicals but a three inch longer wheelbase. The exterior was meant to evoke a more European flavor and the car was said to have drawn inspiration from the Jaguar E-type. 1970 was the last year for the first generation Cougar and included a host of changes including more standard features,... revised styling, and a new 351cid "Cleveland" V8 engine option. The body is generally in decent shape, with a solid frame. The paint is average, with many imperfections and there is some rot, especially in the rear drivers fender, but a whole new patch panel will come with the sale. The convertible top hydraulics work perfectly but the top should be replaced soon. The car has good chrome, 14in alloy wheels with good tires, and a rear spoiler. The interior is nice and features excellent seat. There is some wear present on the dashboard and door cards, but it is very presentable. There is a Ford steering wheel fitted and the car is equipped with a newer Jensen head unit. This car is fitted with the desirable 351cid Cleveland V8 engine that is said to produced around 300 hp. OTher options on this car include power steering, power disc brakes, and a power top. The engine runs very very well and the car is an excellent driver.
